I took tangerines to the NABA park Tuesday morning. Cut them up and set them around the hackberry trees and in the fruit baskets. The morning was still cool and the places where I set the fruit are shaded...but even so, right away a bunch of Tawnys showed up...and did get a good shot of a Mexican Bluewing.
Fruit Feaster revisited...
Now that is a BLUE butterfly! How pretty! I don't think we get anything blue like that in Florida! Very nice photo!
Yes...I always love seeing those! During the months of late September/early October we see dozens and dozens of females ovipositing on the vasey adelia. They are always a big hit with the tourists and fellow leps.
I love it! ...and I want to see it in person! :)
He's such a pretty blue!
Yes, I'd like to see more butterflies in person also. I think they avoid my yard because of so many birds. Good pictures especially that blue one.
That is so beautiful. I wish we got them here.
Ahh, such a bold blue s/he sports.
A stunningly beautiful flutterbye!!
I can only dream ...

do you think if I cut up tangereines it would attract butterflkies here too?
Steph,
The brushfoots are the butterflies that come to butterfly bait and fruit. Butterflies like emperors, leafwings, admirals, crackers, sisters, malachites, bluewings, ladys and question marks. We also get common mestra, red rim, satyrs and blomfild's beauty. If you have those butterflies where you live you're sure to attract them then.

Thanks, TPP - I didn't know it was only the brushfoot varieties that liked the butterfly bait. I am definitely going to try the bait in the spring!
You may get an occasional curious butterfly...I've seen a Queen or two and a Duskyblue Groundstreak on the fruit...but I think they just happened to stumble on it...the main ones that seek out fruit and bait are the brushfoots :o)
