Catalogues Arriving!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I'm so excited - I got my first seed catalogues for 2007, 2 yesterday and one today. Yesterday's were the Seed Saver's Exchange and Pinetree Garden Seeds. Today's is Seeds of Change. I just love it when the catalogues start to come, then I know I've got something to keep me going all winter while I wait for the next season! Anyone else getting their catalogues yet? What are your favourites? I love the SSE one because I like to read about the history. I also like the Scheepers Kitchen Garden one.

I have received Twilleys, Stokes, Rupp, and Pine Tree. I get a bunch more.

I also like Willhites, Burpees, Johnnys, and Vermont Bean Seed.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

I have just received the Dixondale Farms catalog -- onions and leeks. I will place my order soon because I know what grows here.

I am sooooooo jealous!!! I've only received the Seeds of Change catalogue so far.

I ordered from Burpee's last year. I never did get part of my order, then they blamed it on me and accused me of lying. I'll never buy from them again.

Milk Ranch seems to be a great place for potatoes. I haven't ordered from there, but I intend to for next year. Looks like they have every kind of potato that exists.

I did order a lot of seeds from ValueSeeds, including a carrot that I've been wanting to try, the Parmex, the little round carrots. I can stuff little round carrots into my little round zucchinis.

I'm looking forward to next year. I plan to have more beds ready, so I can plant more vegetables.

We bought our seed potatoes from Milk Ranch this year. They were terrific. We will definitely order from them again next year.

I realized after reviewing the Seeds of Change catalogue that it's the "professional growers" one which I am not really able to use. I'm not sure why they sent me this one. The amounts of seed are huge, like 10,000 carrot seeds, etc. I need more like 100 carrot seeds, or maybe 10. I will have to wait for their "home gardener" version to come.

I did order from Burpee too last year, but only seeds, and they arrived without incident. Mostly I order just seeds and then I buy plants locally.

No more catalogues came over the holiday weekend. I will have to see what comes this week. I'll have to look into Milk Ranch. I should get on Stokes website and order theirs. I don't think I got it last year but I used to get it in Canada. I had sort of forgotten about them.

Today I got Dixondale Farms, SSW and Vermont Bean and Seed Company. I am still impatiently waiting for the first week of Januray for my Sandhill Preservation Catalog. My 2007 Burpee should show up in the next couple of weeks and I am using them because I have 60.00 worth of gift certificates I won in the Maxwell House Points game.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I received my pine tree catalogue and did a quick order. I will be stuffing my DH and DS Xmas stockings with all my seed orders that come before Xmas. They will just assume Santa goofed and give them to me. I am rotten, but I figure they get to enjoy the bounty. I got my first T&M and a Sunrise seed order already, but I have more sense to wait to start planting. Patti

I have been getting a smattering of catalogues since the day after Thanksgiving this year. This is the earliest I've seen them arrive. I think the companies have caught on to the fact that we gardeners are so anxious to get back into our gardens that we tend to buy from the first outfit that mails us their booklets. I do buy from these early birds, but I also have my favorites that I wait for. That is, until I can't stand it any more, then I go on line and order from their web page.

Ha, ha, ha, bbrookrd, I love it!
