Tapeinochilus recurvata

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

This is for Dave Skinner:

Dave, that nice plant of Tapeinochilus recurvata I got from you is already bloming, and, is almost 5 feet tall! The bracts/inflo is only about 3 inches tall, but the colors are beautiful! It is also starting to send out a side branch form the blooming tip. This Tapei. is much easier to grow than T. anannassae hands down, even with pot culture as opposed to in-ground culture. Here's a pic.

Anyway, I have wanted this plant for a couple of years now and this is a big THANKS! to you for this wonderful plant. Keep up the great work, Dave!

Hi Brad, glad it is doing well for you. My mother plant has been blooming well this year too. This species has the advantage over T. ananassae also by the fact that the inflo is borne terminally instead of basal and is more at eye level. Both species have colorful bracts that last a very long time. This one does seem a bit easier to bloom and it does not have to be so mature. I would propagate a lot more of it if only it was hardy, I have only a few small plants right now. I assume you have it in your greenhouse there in Central Florida. More photos at

Lovely plant :)

Hey Dave.. Nice site.. I think it would be better to have the picture of the gingers right by the names on the main order page.. instead of having to click on each one to see. Regardless, i see things I could certainly grow :)
