Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Keep it there! We were just at +48 F yesterday......-6 C is expected today.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Even my dog walker warned me if it is that cold next week he wont be walking dogs. As he said I spend 2 hours rounding them up and taking them home and then we get to the park and in about 5 mins they are all lifting their paws and heading back to the car!
Sure cant blame him- I dont take them out at -15C or more.
Ah well bound to happen!

We're flooding here. Most of the roads in downtown Campbell River are flooded, all the parking lots are flooded too. There is water pouring in the roof of Save on Foods. It's a mess and it's still raining. I saw a city worker up to his knees in water at the bus station downtown trying to clear a drain. Poor guy. The road to Gold River is washed out too. It's a mess.

Oh Jeanne, this has been an awful week for you lotuslanders. Well........at least you won't have to worry about it freezing? You are safe and dry (relatively) I hope.

We denied winter today with +12°C. tomorrow we will be saying "What a difference a day makes!"

I don't know, they are forcasting cold weather this weekend, it could snow on top of all of this. Let's hope not.

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

My fingers are all very tightly crossed for you Jeanne that the weather finally gives you a bit of cooperation.

North Saanich, Canada

We actually saw some sunshine yesterday in between a few good rounds of rain. I see a bit of blue sky this morning, but I'm sure it won't last. According to the weatherman, the rain will ease off the next few days, but as Jeanne said, sounds like it is going to go down to the freezing point.
DD just called me from Edmonton, bemoaning the fact that she has just driven in her very first blizzard. She grew up on the Prairies, but learned to drive in Victoria, so the driving in snow is a new thing for her!!!! Also-shovelling!!!

Glenda

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

A fair bit of snow overnight, temps this morning about -10C. A former neighbor who still owns the house down the street and uses the garage for a workshop brought his snowblower over this morning and I think he cleared the whole block plus half way into the houses! How nice. Hope he will do that all winter. I shovel the snow from the back patios onto the flower beds.
No wind so the cold is not too bad!

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

It is currently 5C this evening. The forecast is for 1 and -1 on Sunday and Monday.
Today I topped off the mulching on the beds as this is the last chance to protect anything in there. I guess that is on par with what you were saying Glenda.

Jeanne.. Is the weather pretty much on par with ours most of the year?I used to think it was abit colder upisland but I could be wrong.

It sure is brrr cold in Calgary and Edmonton. We are spoiled out here but you know what, I really do miss the snow at times. Especially in Dec, would love to get the kids out there for a good old fashioned snowball fight.

Bea

I'm in a little microclimate here on a cliff over the ocean. One block up the road is a zone lower. My passiflora is 17 years old and huge. I do nothing to it. I can also grow a lot of zone 8b 9a plants here and they survive.

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

Brugcrazy...............Which passiflora do you have that does so well and what other more tropical things do you leave outside?

I did a lot of reasearch on the zones as I was confused with so many differing opinions here in Victoria. It seemed when you asked at a nursery they all had different numbers.I finally found a site that was done by the highschools here and they recorded the temp for the last 5 or 6 years at each school. When I picked my district I found we too were 8b for sure up to 9a. We are away from the ocean and it is actually warmer here. Downtown it is much colder because of the ocean winds. These microclimates makes it interesting for sure.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I have not been out yet but apparently it is about -16 which is the predicted high for the day!
Predicted highs for the weekend are -20 and -24!
Guess I better get out the Stanfields!

North Saanich, Canada

Gosh, that's getting pretty cold Carol!!! That's one thing I don't miss about the Prairies, is the cold in winter. Sounds like we are heading for some freezing weather, down to -7 on Sunday night. Must get my gunnera winterized and get a few of my pots inside the greenhouse.
Freezing weather will be a change from the last several weeks of rain. Paper stated today that we set a record for November rainfall!!!
Stay warm!

Glenda

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

On Wednesday November 29 we are predicted to be at -38.2°F here.

Hollywood is in Moose Jaw right now (up till Christmas)......... Nick Stahl, Oscar nominees Dennis Hopper and Woody Harrelson and Oscar winner Charlize Theron are soon going to discover the true definition of cold (they may never be the same again ;).

The big fluffy white stuff is raining down upon us. Started out as sleet, and it has just gradually gotten worse over the afternoon. Starting to stick now. Got the plants into the greenhouse and the gunnera has a very big pile of mulch on top of it. All should be okay. We don't usually get this kind of weather until after Christmas!!!

Glenda

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Yupperuni........we have had some snowfall also! My grandkids visited today, so we all watched the fuffy flakes! What a great day it was!!! Elaine

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

No winter here yet...last week was temps in the low to high teens. This past 3 days were more seasonal at 4-5 C. Suppose to drop to -2 for Tuesday and Wednesday's high but dry weather. By weeks end temps are suppose to be back up to 10-12 C with showers. I was inspecting my lawn today..it needs mowing! I've never mowed in November, let alone December! Hate to say it, but please keep winter in the west!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Light snow and about -24C , wind chill about -32C all day today. Even the dogs did not want to stay out.
When we went out this morning, prepared to walk ,I decided to shovel the sidewalks first - by the time I finished Bailey was sitting on the back step waiting to go in and Fancy came running the minute I opened the dog. When my dogs dont want to go for a walk it is definitely too cold! They went out again a little while ago, did a quick pee and came runing back in!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Todays forecast:Periods of snow ending this afternoon then cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind becoming north 30 km/h gusting to 50 late this morning. High minus 23. Wind chill minus 38.
Just went out to shovel the walks . Dressed warm enough to walk the dogs but even before I finished they were asking to go in the house! Thats OK with me!
Guess I will start putting up the indoor window Xmas lights o which also means washing allo the curtains. Good day for it. I have a class with Fancy tonight but it is about 40 minutes away so I wont be going. Good day to stay off the roads!

Got my snowtires put on Friday, on Saturday, it snowed, and still here for the time being - will be rained away soon - my little female mini-dachshund went out, looked at the snow on "her" grass, and then stood there, one paw in the air, looking at me mournfully, while I urged her to go do her thing...she peed on the pavement rather than walk onto that wierd white stuff.

So next time we went out, I carried her onto it, and put her down, and she started doing the snowplowing-with-snout thing, thought it was great fun, forgot what we were shivering out there for!

Snow looks great on calendars; me, I could live without it, and mostly do up here.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

trying to type this on dh's little blackberry ........bet last weeks -13 w/o windchill felt pretty warm compared to what u are getting now carrol [unfortunately its going 2 be here tonight] :b

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Yes it is all relevant isnt it - some days anything about -20 sounds good - like right now!
Wind chills last night were pretty bad. I have not been out at all except to shovel the walk - the dogs only stay out for a minute or two and then want to come back in - thank goodness - I might walk them round the block this morning., Supposed to start to 'warm up' on Thursday - I sure hope so as I have classes Thurs and Fri evenings! Still lots of fender benders - roads that are not cleared ( i.e. most of the side roads) are pretty slippery and so many people drive without any concession to the weather! Best to stay off unless essential. Glad I can stay home!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Quoting:

yep. DH has been following your advice and was spending the morning cancelling calls so he wouldn't have to drive to Swift Current and area (U.S. Border to Swift Current Snow Drifts, Swirling Snow, Drifting Snow, Zero Visibility 11-28 13:58.....Highway Hotline). Supposed to arrive here tonight and will have those conditions all day tomorrow (tonight's program guest presenter from Regina just cancelled ;).

ok getting the tractor stuck and having to switch to the international for chores and its still november!!!!!

I personally am going to generate as many tonnes of greenhouse gases as I can to tease global warming back here

Climate change a very tough sell this year. Snowbanks on sides of driveway high enough that it is a BIG effort to throw the snow to the top and trust me that is a twice a day job right now

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Jeesh, you guys, I feel guilty. We were moaning here today about how cold it was ..... zero!

Sandy

(Zone 7b)

I know, I'll be complaining, and then someone will tell me what Manitoba went through that day, and I feel guilty and spoiled...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Wow! It is officially -17C First time over -20 since maybe Friday? Of course wind chill puts that down to close to -40!
Havent been out yet - maybe the dogs will want to go for a walk - havent done that since Sat morning!
Going to plug the car in ( I dont have a garage) and have not attempted driving since Friday - streets, especially corners can be very slippery and drivers seem to refuse to acknowledge the conditions! Lots of fender benders.
Anyway I do have to go out tomorrow so I will just leave the car plugged in until then and see what happens.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOLOLOL 2zeus!

Fancy I must admit I'm enjoying not being the coldest for a change. ;)

I wondered when our incorrigible Lynn would show up (her location has been been getting the worst of it and for a longer period).

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Sandy quit bragging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(or we will turn our fans your direction) :)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

hmmmmmmmmm maybe I should have made my smile like this :)~ (seems to have more of a devilsh grin that way ;).

Peachland B.C., BC(Zone 5a)

Wouldn't want any one to think we feel left out, because we live in B.C the banana belt. View from my front window,at -25, as I place another log on the fire, and curl up with a good garden catalogue.
