Dombeya seminole

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Here's a pic of my Dombeya x seminole. It's just about in full bloom now - and my Dombeya wallichii has buds! Two of my most inticipated bloomers in my collection...

It is beautiful Carter. Do you have this in a pot or in the ground?
Thanks for sharing this beauty with us.

Carter,

That is absolutely beautiful. I had one in my front yard and it froze in its second year because I took cuttings for a friend. I lost mine she still has hers. :-(. I must see if Jerry has another one to sell. I really miss it.

Take care,

Daisy

I think Logee's sells them from time to time...not sure if they have it now but I'm pretty sure I've seen it there.

You ought to list it in plantfiles. There is nothing on this plant that I can find.

Thanks

I believe Logee's has it right now. That's where mine originally came from several years ago. I'll check the PlantFiles - I thought it was already there.

Daisy, I will probably try cuttings this spring. I read that supposedly this one is a little more difficult to propagate than D. wallichii (fairly easily rooted with bottom heat), but I'll give it a shot! I'll keep you in mind if I'm successful!! ;)

It is in PF...but it looks like it could use a nice picture to go along with the entry!

My "I want " spring list is growing!! Great pictures

They are easy to tell apart... if the bloom is upright, it's this one. If the bloom hangs down, it's D. wallichii. In Florida, though, it's possible you might have a different species. These are the most common two, but there are one or two out there that are a little bit known.

Plus, D. wallichii has leaves about the size of a dinner plate. D. x seminole has leaves about half that size. I'll try to get pics for you.

Happy, looks like D. x seminole to me. At lease between D. wallichii and D. x seminole. The flower umbels look a little less structured than D. x seminole, though... I took an overall pic of mine this morning - I'll try to get it posted. It looks like a smaller shrub ("smaller", like 3' or 4' tall) - how large is it?

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

it's only a year planted in my garden is about 3' tall and 4' wide.

Carter,

I'm praying that you are get Dombeya x seminole to root. I loved that plant. Everyone would stop at my mail box to check out the variegated leaves. Mine never bloomed. I guess it gets to cold here. If I get another one it will be planted on the south side of the house so hopefully it will bloom.

Thanks!!!!!!!
