tips on gravy making

I have never been able to make good gravy. This will be the first Thanksgiving that is just my little family plus one more, total 4 people. I bought a 10 lb turkey and would love to make gravy. Can anyone provide me with secrets or tips to making gravy? Mine always tastes too floury, so I cut back on flour and it's not thick enough.
