? re: buds falling off

Hi everyone.
I've got a tropical hib, Holly's Pride, that I've brought inside and place in front of a sunny, Southern facing window.
When I brought it in, it had lots of buds on it. They have begun to open and I was SOOOO excited about it. But now, once they reach a certain size, they just fall off. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I've been trying to mist it w/ a spray bottle every couple of days to keep it hydrated and I keep it watered.
Any ideas will be appreciated as I'd love some inside blooms.
Thanks.

LoraB,

I bought my first hibiscus this past year and when it bloomed - I was mesmerized... how beautiful.

Possibly some of the more experienced on this forum could be of more help to you, but I'll give it a shot. At first, I had the same problem with buds dropping. Since it is indoors, try not to move the plant much, only rotate it about 1/4 turn at a time. The first few buds I had fell off too, but the ones that were generated after I bought the plant were stable and I have not had a bud drop since that time. Just curious, do you think you might be watering too much?

Best of luck,

I think we all experience bud drop from time to time. Many times it just stops by itself. Other times its something that gets to it. Also, when you drastically change the climate you can experience bud drop, leaf drop and pouting of some sort. Most of the time it just goes away and the plant grows accustomed to where it is.

I've found even when I move mine around too much they will drop their buds--I think maybe the move from outside to inside stressed it a bit but as long as you're doing everything else right for it, it should recover just fine.

Thanks, all. I'll just be patient and see what happens.

Patience is important, they hate being moved to a different environment but also keep in mind that a nursery would be misting several times a day so you might want to try at least a daily mist just to help it become acclimated. Good luck with it, Holly's Pride is beautiful.

Success! I had a couple of lovely, open blooms showing off just in time for my Christmas party Saturday.
Thanks again for the advice!
LoraB.
