CLOSED: passiflora 'Lady Margaret'

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I will be chopping this vine down from my fence today in order to bring it in the greenhouse. I will have plenty of cuttings of this if anyone would like some to try and root. I have several cuttings already in the process and no room to try and root more. I'd hate for it to go to waste. Just let me know if you would be interested, I would ask for postage in return.

Thanks, Kim

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I would love to try some! Maybe if they are insulated with newspaper around them , they would fair okay in our cool temperatures during travel. I would be glad to pay postage for rooted , unrooted or both. Let me know the postage and I will get it off to you at once. Do you have a paypal account? If so, I will send it today. Lou

What would you like to trade for? I have some brugmansia cuttings, and hibisus cuttings I could trade.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I would think that as long as it isn't freezing, they should fair ok in the mail. I'll wrap them good. These will all be unrooted cuts. I do not know what the postage will be, I'll let you know once I mail them off. No need for trading anything, I am up to my ears in cuttings I am trying to root already. Please make sure that your address is in the exchange or d-mail it to me. Thanks!

I already have an envelope on its way to you for seeds....should be there on Monday-Tuesday.

I think these are hardy here and I'd like to try to root one. If you could slip it in , it would be great, and if I'm too late, then I'm too late.

Thanks,
Suzy in Indy

There is plenty for everyone! I will try to get boxes together tomorrow, I usually get them from work but if not then I'll get them at the post office. I can get these out Tuesday morning, I realize the post office will be closed for Thanksgiving but will reopen on Friday, so they may be in the mail one extra day. However, that is better than having them sit here all week. As soon as I ship them I will let you know the postage amount. Please...no need to send me anything in trade, my greenhouse is already overflowing and there is just no more room. Thanks everyone!

Please count me in for a cutting also! (I have no experience in growing passiflora cuttings though - are they easy?) My address is in the exchange.

Thank you!

For those of you needing help rooting these, I'll explain how I am doing it. I have the cuttings cut into pieces, 2-3 nodes each. All leaves are removed. I dip the ends in rooting hormone and put them in damp, not wet, perlite. Then the whole thing is placed into a 10-gal aquarium covered with plastic wrap to keep in humidity. Finally, and I have found this to be key, the whole thing is placed on a germination mat for bottom heat. I keep this on my light stand but I think as long as there is indirect light it would be fine. No direct sun or you will cook what is inside. Other people do these different ways but this is the first method I have tried that seems to be working so far. The cuttings are all calloused and have root bumps after about a month.

Blue Eyes,

Can you slip mine in the bubble envie instead of a box? I think it will be fine. If not, I'm not sure it's worth a box because I'm not sure I can get it to root anyway.

Thanks,
Suzy

Suzy....so sorry but these are way too large to fit in an envelope. If you would still like a box, please let me know. I will be mailing out tomorrow morning.

Thanks, Kim

Wow, I guess I didn't know what they were........I might kick myself, but I think I'll pass.

Thanks for letting me know,
Suzy

Suzy...I'll see what I can do when your envelope arrives. If I take off all the leaves, I may be able to squeeze one or two small ones in there. I'll do my best for you, ok? It's just that when I hacked this down, I had two buckets full of cuttings at least 3' long! Way too much for an envelope.

Still have more left if anyone is interested!

OK you have convinced me that I can do this. You have mail

Blue Eyes, I'd better hold up on Lady Margaret -- just checked the plant files and it's barely hardy to Zone 8b! No way it will overwinter here. Somebody in Kentucky was growing it, but they must be in extreme southern KY.

Yea....it's not really hardy here even....and I am in zone 8b. That's why I chopped her down and dug her up. I didn't want to take the chance. I grew some passion vines as houseplants when I lived in Ohio, you could try that if you wanted.....or overwinter it inside.

I was told that it's MAYPOP Passsiflora I want. Not sure that's an official name or not, but apparently the only one that would stand a chance. Naturally it doesn't have the bright pink flowers, but it would be so cool to grow one up here!

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

I just received your package today. Oh my goodness what cuttings, thank you!! As soon as my rooting gel gets in, that'll be my rooting method. I love that stuff!! I will be sending payment via PayPal in just a few minutes.

Again, thanks so much!!

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I got my cuttings today. They were crispy dry so they are now soaking in super thrive water. Thanks so much. I will get the paypal amount out to you in a few minutes. Lou

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

My apologies to anyone whose cuttings were dried, I thought they would be ok. I will have more next year so please let me know and I can get some more out to you then. When rooting passi cuttings, the leaves will dry out and fall off, this is normal and the cuttings should root regardless. As long as the stem is still green inside they should be ok. I usually remove the leaves anyway so it is less of a mess. Postage ran between $4-$5 so for anyone who threw out their box. Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

Kim:

Did you send any to me? Or were you out by the time I asked? I didn't receive a package, so you may not have had any left when I posted the request .... I was a bit late, so maybe next year!

Lin

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Lin,

Yes, I sent a package out to you, it went out on Wed so it should hopefully get to you on Monday. If they are a little dry, make a new cut on the bottom and soak them overnight in water before rooting. Water rooting doesn't work for me in winter, not sure about where you are at though. I have been using damp perlite with bottom heat. I mail hoya cuttings the same way I mailed these and they always arrive just fine, so I don't know why these dried out. Next time I will have to wrap them better.

:) Kim

(Zone 1)

Thanks so much Kim ... I'm sure they will be fine! I will soak them before planting. I usually don't have any trouble here in Florida rooting things. I know sometimes when plants are dried on the outside, there's still viable green wood on the inside .... so I'm going to give it a try. I will mail the postage to you as soon as the package arrives.

You grow Hoya's too? Hope we can make a trade sometime. I'm @ 2 months new to DG and have had one Hoya for many years that I've rooted cuttings from many times. I think its the Krimson Princess .... at least from the research I've done, I believe it's that one. I found info on the web that listed the leaf colorations of different Hoya's, and I should have bookmarked the site .... can't for the life of me remember what the name was, and haven't had time yet to look for it again! I have made a couple of trades since joining DG and now have a few other Hoya cuttings I'm rooting! Never knew there were so many different Hoya's and also didn't know that some are fragrant! Well, I've gotten off subject here, so again Thanks for the Passiflora 'Lady Margaret' cuttings .... will you D-Mail me your address so I can send the postage?

Lin

(Zone 1)

Hey Kim:
Just received my package today .... yep! they are REALLY dried out and crispy, but there's a bit of green on the stems so I'm gonna try anyway! I put them to soak right away! I will put a check in the mail to you tomorrow for the postage.

Thanks,

Lin
