Louisiana Satsuma

Lake Charles, LA

My ten year old tree was loaded with small sweet fruit last year. It was a dry year and the treed like it.

This year the fruit is really large and sparse . They are as big as oranges and very watery. It has rained a lot and I wonder if that is the reason for the funny fruit.

How should the tree be pruned? My husband just lops off the top after the fruit is finished. and we never fertilize. Should we?

Any tips? thanks in advance, Dogwood

My neighbor just takes the hedge shears and goes to town with seeming wild abandon. We had a lot of summer rain over here this year and he has the biggest and sweetest crop I've seen in years. He always brings me big bags of them. He is a great neighbor!

Satsumas are a kind of orange that peels easily - rather like a Clementine. Delicious!
