The great friend who sent me this beauty told me to expect a special treat. I can't remember who crossed for her or who grew her. Maybe someone will remind my ailing mind. But I do I believe she is from a cross of EP X RK, both specie brugs. Amazing what nature will create.
Remember these are November colors.
A cheer for Dorthea!
I wanted to take these pictures before I rob her of all her pollen. Whenever I look at her, I smile. She reminds me of being happy. She looks happy all the time.
I had heard she is stingy with her pods too so I was too thrilled when one of mine took.
Baby pods illicit the same feeling from me as baby animals.
Wow Kell
She is a real beauty! I love the shape of the bloom, looks quite wide at the bottom and can only image the color in summer. The color it is now is very pretty.
I don't know how you do what you do but you do it well. I can just picture it blooming when it was so small. How in the world did you coax it to form a Y when it was only a few inches tall? That Y looks like it is only about 4 inches from the soil. Is there a trick to it?
Bea
Dorthea is listed as Rubiline Seedling x Rubiline Seedling. Ludger Schneider is listed as the hybridizer. It's pink and perky, so I can see how it would make you smile.
I noticed the leaves in the first photo. She surely inspires a happy face and, like you, I luv those baby pods, and hers is cute and fuzzy...
I had a pod on mine, about 3"-4" long when I had to bring inside for winter. It stayed on for almost a month, then dropped. I'm not expecting anything, but did plant the baby white seeds. Had pollinated it with L'Amour.
This is another on my wish list just beautiful
Wow.. that is awesome. I love the swirly skirt.. so full and pretty. Beautiful color too...
Hi Bea. It had nothing to do with me. It is in its genetic code to bloom bloom bloom. I received a piece, from above the Y to begin with so it was capable of blooming at any moment and it did. It was probably half of the Y.
I always like the above the Y pieces best. They bloom fastest for me and I get to see what the new brug looks like. If I want to keep it, I take good care of it and feed it well and it will put out suckers great for standards. I let the sucker grow while still attached till it gets the height I want and then I cut and root it.
Thanks Mary for the info! You are the type to love all babies, Sherry! LOL.
Oh Gloria, you must have been so disappointed. If I get any good seeds, sit on me till I send you some if you want them. Today I pollinated all her flowers. I did one with a double pink, one with a new hybrid I have that is incredible. It is big, PINK and has incredibly long tendrils. I have only seen 1 bloom cycle so I do not yet know if she is a keeper, but she has that special twinkle to her blooms.
One with Ruthie and I can't remember which pollen I used on the 4th one. Oh I might have used some German pollen from a brug that is nice but no cigar except for her tendrils and her thick corolla walls and some hot parents. LOL. I was walking around with her pollen painting it on my different double pinks. She has a double pink mother so I figured I may increase chances for double pink offspring with using her pollen on other double pinks.
Thanks Joyce! Elva, how much room do you have? I do not think you have ever seen a brug you did not love. LOL You are so smitten.
I also find the parrot's beak neck much more intriguing than the regular one.
Kell my back yrad is 1 1/2 ac. as is my front yard. as many plants the back yrd still looks empy....
I have room for about 50 more big plants....plus room for lots of smaller ones lol
Elva
She is gorgeous Kell, I love her shape and such a nice color for this late in the season.
She is a beauty. I would love to get one to bloom at such a small size. What is the secret? All of my seedlings are 3-4 feet tall before they even Y and some alot taller. Is it because I started them from seeds rather than cuttings? I love everything about her the color, shape and size. I am learning thanks to all of you.
Linda
Very pretty, kell. So many blooms on such a little plant.
I would love to see this plant bloom in the middle of summer so that I could see it's true
colors.
Kell.... Thanks for the tips . You could have fooled me, I couldn't see that it was from a cutting all the blooms hide that. It's a keeper.
Bea
