Ruthie in November

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

She has lost her great color but not her multitude of blooms. I have gotten so many flushes from her this year.

She always has so many flowers in each flush. I bet this is my last one for the year.

She is HUGE! She has been in the ground a year and she already is taller than the wires that go from house to the telephone poles. How tall is that?

Sadly, my yard is so full of my desires, there is little room for a plant to say LOOK AT ME!!

She is taller than my big Crape Myrtle tree and much taller than my 8 ft rose arbors.

This is a picture of November in my front yard, when all my roses have grown way too much and everything is screaming to be pruned way back. So please excuse the mess!

The big metal thingie in the picture is a HUGE rose pillar. It is so big, we could not fit it thru our backyard gate to bring it into my backyard so I had to plant it in my front. Dr. Don actually handmade it for me and brought it from his horse ranch in So. Ca this last summer when he came for a visit. http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2198220

I can't wait for next summer when I have a very PINK Mandevilla growing all over it and coming out of the top like a fountain of PINK blossoms. http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/89223/

Great pics. I love the glimpses of your fantastic garden!

Kell what is the history of this cultivar, do you know?

I know of 'Ruty' (possibly 'Rutty') which I think is a US hybrid by Patrice Dreckman, and 'Ruth' - a German hybrid by Elke Duback, but have never heard of 'Ruthie' :-)

OH Kell , Ruthie is to die for and now on my wish list !

Wow your gardens are beautiful.

Hi Alistair! Are you working on a family tree? By all your questions that I see, it seems so. LOL.

This is a cross of EP X L'A. I named it for my Mom to give her a some fun but she died before she could see her. So this brug is a source of great enjoyment for me but also very bittersweet. Funny she has grown to be the tallest brug I have ever had so I can see her from wherever I stand in my front yard or even in my courtyard and she can see me. Sometimes I feel my Mom is watching over me.

Ruthie in her summer colors won Miss May in a brug calendar you probably are familiar with.

Just stopping by to ogle your awesome angel trumpets and garden. Deep sigh...as I look out my windows, just doesn't look quite like yours exactly.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh but inside you have the prettiest PINK garden I have ever seen. You really do.

Your garden is gorgeous. The tibochema next to Ruthie is a lovely color combination.

Where is this Brug calender available at? Do they have them each year where ever they are? Ohh ahhh would like one of those to put into my stocking:) Opps guess you can't post that or can you?

Shoot, I didn't know Ruthie was EP x L'A - that explains why she looks so much like my/your EP x L'A seedling, I wish my photos hadn't been in my crashed computer. I call mine MonaLisa, for my daughter, and she's big, and was almost that same color her first flush, last year. This year, she was topped by a limb and never came back like they usually do because of the heat/drought, but she's not through, she's a fighter, and unless we get a freeze, she will bloom again soon...if she was a Golden, we'd say she/they are cookie cutters...

I was waiting again to see Ruthie. Thank you, Kell, for posting the pictures.
She has, for many reasons, been my favorite of all of your brugs.

Beautiful Kell
Sure did brighten my evening seeing your colorful pics of Ruthie.
I was noticing that metal arbor thingie!! I remember when you and Tom were trying to fit one on the car. Or was that trying to fit it through the gate?? LOL
Any whooo... You have brightened my evening.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks so much Jackie and Bonnie!

LOL Kin, yes we were trying to put a double wide one on the car and then fit it thru the gate. It was like a rubber band, wanting to spring back to its original U shape. LOL. We finally did get it in the back yard after much hysteria. I have to have arbors all over for my climbing roses whether the look ridiculous or not. LOL

Bea, I will email you. I just love my Tibouchina!! I have 4 good sized trees of it for it makes the best backdrop. It blooms heavily thru to Christmas. Can't beat it for its rich royal color and lots of it for an extended perid of time.

Kell,
I love the heart felt love that you have for this brug.. Im sure it will get bigger and better every year. Just like the love for our family and loved ones. My mom loved yellow roses. When she past, I bought a beautiful rose bush named 'Easy Going', just like she was. Yes yellow, and beautiful like her.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Kell,

So beautiful, I can't even imagine how anyone could drive by without stopping or getting into a 'fender bender'. I can just see the rubber neckers along your street.

Ruthie is so beautiful. Isn't it so appropriate that she is the largest and has so many beautiful blooms. Your mother is truly with you. It makes me think of my gardian angel father that has been gone for almost 4 years. I Know he is watching over and helping me.

You are the best of the best. Thank You.

Marie
