I have a pineapple guava that needs to go in the ground. Has anyone in the greater Austin area grown these? I'm not sure if it's deer resistant, so will probably plant it in protected backyard. Know it needs sun and consistent moisture, but not sure if now is best time to plant it. Sandi
pineapple guava
I have planted mine in spring, late summer and early fall, and the plants don't seem fazed. I would said it is OK to transplant now; however, I can't answer the deer question since I don't have that problem in my suburban subdivision.
Thanks, appreciate the speedy response. I'll plant it this afternoon.... one more thing I won't have to take into temp. greenhouse...
Pineapple guava is listed as being deer resistant (rare or minor damage). However when they are hungry enough, they will eat almost anything especially in drought conditions. This plant has such wonderful blooms that I wish that I had a place in which to plant one. I saw one here in San Antonio, but, sadly, it died during the the severe drought conditions because the house either must have not been occupied or the people living there did not water it. So, it is not drought tolerant.
