And other veggies are what I am looking for to grow this coming year. Anyone know a good source for seeds? I have seed growing fever this year, which ought to be interesting considering the greenhouse is already full!

heat resistant tomatoes
Kim I have a bunch of tomato seeds that need to go to a good home (kinda like a puppy--but they won't ruin your rugs). Sometime this week I'll list them out for you and anyone who wants some can have for postage. Have a lot of heirloom varieties too. Am trying to work on a website right now (and look what I'm doing--LOL) and have got to get this one section done really quickly--probably why I'm "biting at the bit" and resisting working!
Debbie
Souds great Debbie, thanks so much!
:) Kim
Hey Kim, there are a couple of different heat tolerant tomatoes that I know of and I am sure that there are tons more, but I haven't been doing tomatoes long. This fall I grew out the BHN 444 and right now I have two on the counter doing there ripening thing. I have lots more on the plant that look really good. They do not have any cracking and have a good globe shape. Since this was the fall crop it did not have to tolerate too much heat like our spring crops do, so I can't testify to it't heat tolerance but can say that it is listed on the texas superstar website. Debbie actually pointed me to it when I was interested in it this spring. I will let you know how it tastes once I break into it. I read about it in the Austin newspaper...they were raving about it's heat tolerance and disease resistance.
There are lots of hybrids out there that are going to be heat tolerant. But from what I hear on the tomato forum, the really really good tasting tomatoes are going to be the heirloom tomatoes. From what I have learned reading here on DG and other places, is that in the heirloom category there are some that have better heat tolerances than others. For example, the "black" tomatoes. The black tomatoes are supposed to do very well in the heat. I have tasted a Black from Tula and Black Cherry and can testify to their outstanding taste. Delicious!! My friend Michelle (Tomatoholic on DG) grew out Porters Pride and Arkansas Traveler and said that those did fantastic in the heat. Cherokee Purple is a "black" tomato and it is her favorite.
I hope this helps. I do have some tomato seeds to offer both you and bookworm. I need to get you guys a list of what I have so that you can start preparing to start your seeds in January for springtime planting. :-)
Debbie -- I want some seeds! I will get in touch with you soon. :-) Hope you are doing well.
I'll post what I have Merae and let you and Kim have first pick. I'm fine, thanks for asking; hope you and yours are well too.
We grew Cabernet this year for the first time and were quite impressed. It is touted as a greenhouse or outdoor variety with large fruit. The three plants in the greenhouse survived incredible heat and neglect. Two of the three are still alive and have small green tomatoes on plants over six feet tall. I have removed all the dead or damaged leaves, treated for white flies and spider mites, and fertilized. The outside plants did well outside too until I had to neglect watering them a bit too long. We are definitely going to grow them again. Early Girl and Viva Italia are two others that do well for us every year.
We water with soaker hoses and heavily mulch the ground around our tomatoes. We don't like to use pesticides, but if spider mites attack, we do use Kelthane.
I love tomatoes and grew a lot of heirlooms when I lived in Ohio. I am excited to hear there are a few that should do well here. I have seeds for Black Krim, they are a few years old but I am going to check and see if they germinate. When should I plant seeds for plants in the spring here? Last year I think I was a bit late and ended up purchasing starter plants.
Thanks, Kim

Hi Debbie! Thanks so much....what a great list you've got there. I would be interested in the Old Virginia tomato, Ariane pepper, Sun King tomato, Sunny Goliath tomato, Tennessee Britches tomato, and Azoychka tomato. Thank you so much. Is there anything you would like in return?
:) Kim
A couple of stamps so I can put them on a bubble mailer and get them to you. =)
dmail me for address.
YAY!!! It is good to hear from you Debbie. I too have just been overwhelmed with work, I haven't been on DG much. I am delighted to see an update to this thread. This weekend I will also log on and offer to share the seeds I have.
Debbie, I would love to have:
Fireworks
Ancho San Martin
Roumanian Rainbow -- this is a pepper right?
Akers West Virginia
Jaunne Flamme
Kim asked for Tennessee Britches, but if you have several seeds, can I have two of this one?
Thanks so much for sharing. I will send you money or stamps for postage.
Merae
I have the following seeds from Johhny's and Totally Tomatoes:
Cherokee Purple (late, 80 out)
Sungold
Eva Purple Ball
Pruden’s Purple
Tumblers (cherry tomatoes to grow in hanging baskets)
Black Krim
Arkansas Traveler
Stupice
This'll be my first time planting tomatoes and I have only 5 EBs to date, so I know I won't use them all. Happy to share what I can. I didn't order a large quantity, and I'll need to ensure I have some good seedlings, but more than happy to send what I can.
Send a SASE to my address for your seeds
S --elf
A --ddressed
S --tamped
E --nvelop
with your return address on it for your seeds, please.
First come, first served til they are gone. Let me know what you want.
Merae--I have plenty enough for you and Kim. I'll get them out this weekend. Glad to see them going to good homes! Just think of them as puppies that need a home without the messy carpet aspect! lol Merae, have you tried fish peppers? If not you need to try a few seeds--a really nice ornamental too, as well as edible. check it out in PlantFiles.
Kim, are you in the addy?
Debbie
edited to add: While "scrounging" thru the seed box right now I just found the following to add to that list (sorry ladies--my seed box is a big wooden box resembling the newest univeral black hole--lol):
Mariachi Hybrid Pepper
Persimmon tomato
Copia tomato
Costoluto Fiorentino
Blushing Beauty Hybrid bell pepper
I would like to say this is all I will find--but I would probably be lying. =)

Bumping so ya'll will notice I added a few more. Don't be surprised if I find yet more--I'm seeding this week. Done shopping--bought out Best Buy this afternoon. So to the "potting bench" I go....
LOL Debbie.....feel free to through any seeds in there you think I will like. I think you grew out Diva cucumbers this last summer. If you have any seeds left, may I shamelessly ask you for just one or two of those? I looked up fish peppers and yes, I would like to try that also. I like the stripe and variegation. Put me in also for the Goliath. Those look very nice and healthy.
There are some varieties I'm thinking about trying this year. Anybody have experience with Paul Robeson, Omar's Lebanese or Laurel's California Gold? I found them on this site http://www.heirloomtomatoplants.com/Heirloom_tomatoes-ah.htm
No problem Merae--I'll look on the Diva. I also have a lot of green beans but postage would definitely cost more on those.
Siggy, I'm downsizing on vegetables and am only growing what I know will get eaten by us--I need the real estate for other reasons this year.
Thanks so much Debbie....I am in the address exchange. I can get stamps out to you hopefully next week. I am at my parents house in Ohio right now. I'll go ahead and d-mail you. Any other seeds you think I might like you can throw in there too....I love variety. I really appreciate you sharing your seeds!
:) Kim
Ladies, I do need postage for these since I'm providing the bubble mailer and the seeds. Did you want any of the additional ones I posted on the 15th?
edited to add I also have these seeds. But what I do not have, unfortunately, is a lot of time to devote to this after the first of the year.

Hey Debbie,
I am ready to send you postage. I sent you a dmail and haven't had a response from you. Can you send me your addy so I can send you postage? I can get it in the mail today.
Sorry Merae--thought I had dmailed you--will do right now! =)
Well--I meant to add this link but got distracted by something. =0
Actually, it doesn't take much to distract me these days....
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/678102/
Got these that need homes too--sure glad I saved them before this WEEK of rain we've had started. Sure would be nice to occasionally see the sun shine again!=)
Debbie.....I'd love a few of those as well if you've got any left. Sounds like it would be perfect for my fenceline.
:) Kim
OK Kim--I've got it down on the list for you. =)
If you have any more coral vine seeds, I'd love to try them on my lattice fence...Sandi
Yes, I do. I'll dmail you mailing directions--I need 2 stamps but have the mailers.
Bigbubbles, Merae, and Kim--yours are ready to go.
If anyone wants anything that hasn't been edited out up there--let me know quick, I shall soon be too busy to mess with these.
If I have time, I have a lot of flower seeds, etc. that need to go too. And a bunch of natives. I will list those on a seperate thread as soon as I can deal with them. Those will be free to good homes too (I feel like I'm giving away puppies here).=) I'll put them on TX forum first.
Thanks for your time Debbie. I look forward to seeing your new thread when available and receiving my seeds. :-)
The seeds are ready to go--I usually go check the PO box every other day.
Merae and Sandi--I got your seeds out today. When I got to the Post Office, I realized I had left my pen at home. A mistake that won't happen again--lol I hope they can read the faint pen at the post office.
Thanks! You were very brave to go out today! I'm spending most of my day trying to read thru the new camera manual.......
Looking forward to planting new seeds. Appreciate 'em.....Sandi
I only went to the post office--which was rather quiet today. I too had a new camera to try to figure out...I finally put that down and picked up my newest book--Bulbs in Containers.
Debbie!
So you're planting the seeds this week!??? PLEASE tell me what you're going to do, as I am in Houston too. My list is above. Keep in touch with this newbie. Araness told me to go ahead and plant the seeds this week. I'm gonna do egg cartons, I think. What're you planting out in? Did you find starter trays? Where?
I think I'll wait until the first week in Jan since we had our 4th hard frost here this morning. I do under lights in unheated garage for tomatoes--until they get too big. I will probably use deep quarts this year because I definitely will not have time to "pot up bigger". Tomatoes really are a no trouble thing--as long as they get decent light and don't freeze....
I am much further west than you and it gets colder here in the winter, anyway. Probably gets hotter in the summer too--but that's kinda relative I think. Not much difference in 93 and 95 degrees.
Just wanted to let you know I received the package. I can't wait to get started!
Thanks for letting me know they arrived Merae. =)
Debbie....just wanted to let you know that I mailed out the stamps a couple days ago from Ohio. I've been dealing with some family issues here.. Just wanted to let you know I got them out, sorry again for the delay.
:) Kim
They weren't in the PO box today--don't know when I'll get back to the Post Office but will have your seeds in the "box of stuff" I take to the PO everytime I go. =)
