I couldn't remember which thread this topic came up. So, I am starting a new thread. I have a question about plants you take to show.
When the show is over do you sell the plants? I wondered about bugs and things. If yes, that would be very hard to do because of all the time and care and love that have gone into the growing. Then again I guess the fun is in the growing and you can always start a new plant.
Has anyone shown a plant before? What did you do with your plant when the show was over?
Baltimore Show this coming Spring
i've only been to one show, and the "contestants" weren't for sale, but they did have sale tables in another room, and a couple of the people with show plants did very generously give me a leaf. Don't know the first thing about showing plants - I'm still working on getting blooms :-)

Some growers sell their show plants and start over for the reasons you mentioned. On rare or hard to find varieties a few leaves may be taken off to grow more although most have a back up plant or two at home. Or, some recycle their plant by bringing it home and stripping it down. It is basically starting over except for the ribbons won, photos taken and great memories.
Do you have any idea what you would do? After all the effort, it would be hard to just sell it.
Seems like if I had worked that hard and loved it that much, I'd want to keep my plant - probably bring it home and put in isolation? Strip it down?? Really? I don't have that kind of courage.
I think I would keep the plant and at least debud and spray it. I would set leaves way before the show. I understand that if "bugs" come they can pass to new babies through the leaves. This is all "what ifing" but I should know what I would do.
