A double waiting to open...

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

This is EDW x Rosamond.. It is the one I was talking about in another thread about having flapples.. LOL I hope I get color, but I really don't care. I have yet to experience a double bloom.. Creamsickle is gonna open before her..

Oh gosh... please forgive my rudeness.. I forgot all about mentioning the hybridizer.. Brenda Delph at seedsprout.com. These seeds were from her! This is my first year, and I'll learn the "ropes" I promise! My face is sooo red.

EDITED TO GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT IS DUE!

Nice shape on her to Joyce. Listen, it could come out white or real pale this time of year but really be darker. I am thinking PINK!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Lordy Girl!! Flappies are a deformity, don't wish that on her!!! We are wishing for a really gracious Brug that you can register!!

Really Joyce, flapples sound like what my underarms do along with a few other body parts when I am in fast motion. LOL. You want FLUFFLES and plenty of them. LOL PINK FLUFFLES on a double!!! How cool would that be. You go girl!!

Hi ZZ,
EDW is a good mother plant and I cross my fingers, that you will get some color on your double. I got a mixture of white and golden, single and double from crossing EDW to B. aurea 'Goldenes Kornett', so EDW is for sure capable of giving color to its offspring. Also a cross between EDW and EP gave a mixture of versicolor-like white flowers and some, that was rich peach.

Here is the double I was talking about. It starts out white and then gradually turns golden. The inner skirt get the color first :)

LOL Kell!!! Fluffles on a double would be very cool though. Joyce, hope your baby colors up for you - will be watching :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

WOW Tonny, now that is a cool double. The calyx is so low. Can you post a picture of B. aurea 'Goldenes Kornett'?

Kell, I try to work on the calyx in future generations. It is a trait coming from B. versicolor. If I understood Vicki correctly 'EDW' is 'Species' x 'EP'. I have crossed the double ('Lena') back to 'Goldenes Kornett', but also crossed it to 'Rubirosa' and 'Analyn'. The two latter hopefully elongates the flowers a bit and lay down a foundation for golden, pink and peach doubles ...

Here is 'Goldenes Kornett'. It is a fast and robust grower. I started a little cutting in the spring and now it is standing in my wintergarden 2.5 m tall.

Tonny your first blooms are beautiful!!!

Lookie Lookie, I'm here!

I imagine it will just be a white.. but what a Lil Power Puff it is... I am so thrilled... I love miniatures.. LOL It's tiny.. I love it so much.. I don't care if it's lopsided, inside out and upside down.. it's my very first double.

She's just ADOREABLE !! Tiny and perfect in all ways !! Way to go ZZ, you're such a good Brug Mommy !!
We had high winds and lota of rain for the last 2 days and I was away taking care of my Sister that had surgery Monday. She is fine, for real. We had a glasstop picnic table flip over and burst into a zillion pieces so I am off to clean up that mess. It landed in some potted roses (sigh) so hopefully (and prayefully) they are okay.

AND Tonny, I have a goldeness Kornett too. She does have very pretty blooms !! I love her :))
God bless everyone, Margo

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Margo, the news sound so grim. I am glad you are OK and hope your roses are too.

Congratulations Joyce on your first double. May many more follow!

Tonny, I love the low calyx look. For some reason it reminds me of a 1920's flapper. I can't wait to get pod with your B. aurea 'Goldenes Kornett' pollen. I am going to share some with Patricia.

I grew out lots of EDW X RK and they were all white. I didn't cross them again as I got a shape I was not thrilled with but they had tons and tons of blossoms. Joyce, are you going to cross your baby? Interesting for you have yellow in the mix with Rosamond

You sound like me!!! Many of the people posting here, have been here and done that, but they still get pleasure out of our excitement, don't you think!!

Please post another picture, they can change so much in 24 hours.

Well... Kell, you have a point there!! I am not 100% sure the tag was right.. she very well could be Dr Suess x Creamsickle Cause it looks like we got some more yella today.. I'm a little red faced for so PROUDLY stating her parentage.. LOL when in truth, there are only 2 seedlings I can say I KNOW they didn't get mixed up.. One from Calalily and my BeeBee who is HDW x LAmour.

LOL Judy.. I do?? That is cool. :-) I'm a first year brug'er.. LOL I have yet to overwinter.. so this is still makin me do back flips.. Sometimes I think I am just too easy to please.

This is not the same bloom as the one above.. This one is on the other side of the fence, but they both opened last night.

FYI........Remember, Rosamond has Ocre in her background. Rosamond is from a Rothkirch x Ocre cross and Ocre is yellow. It is possible that your EDW x Rosamond did produce this one.

Beautiful ZZ. This time of year flowers can be smaller than normal.
She could be a big beautiful double next year.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you Snowhermit... I see Creamsickle opened and she is HUGE and Heavy! I like it being small, I don't mind that, but I would like to see the second skirt come down like Creamsickle did. If my double gets big like that.. Wow.. She's gonna be pretty if she learns to drop that second skirt right.. LOL She sure smells good.. I'm tellin ya, her fragrance is strong.. I love that. I'm so excited.. I just love this!

That is very interesting Brugie.. I am really getting excited about learning all the different lines.. Thank you!

Kell, what would I cross her with? I like the yellow cause they seem to have more fragrance. I only have Rosamond for pink pollen.. Then I have:

Amber Rose
KBS
V Apricot
Dr Suess
Tequila Sunrise (I will not be keeping)

And I'm sorry I forgot to thank you Tonny for posting your pics and giving this info.. I really appreciate it..

I'm so taken up with all this.. please forgive my rudeness if I don't acknowledge anyone in a timely manner..

Margo, I hope your roses are okay. I'm sorry to hear of those terrible winds.. I know when it's blowing, no matter where I am, I cringe to think whats happening to my brugs.

And Stownes... Here is a pic of a bud that had fallen off.. I tore it open to see what they look like and thought it had fluffles.. LOL See those things on the second skirt?? Those were attached, so I kinda decided they are Flapples. LOL

LOL Joyce, you have it so bad. It is so much fun isn't it? I think your double is just great. Look at that attitude in her skirt and tendril. She reminds me of Golden Lady with that slight upright swing of her skirt.

Rosamond as a parent does make it more interesting as it adds yellow to the mix. Butterfly does the same. So your expectations for the unexpected are more of a thrill. LOL Though with EP from the EDW and Rothkirch from Rosamond, it may be easier to cross her with a pink to get PINK! But you may get lucky and get a yellow or you may have to go one more generation with adding another yellow to achieve getting a yellow. But what do I know. LOL

This would be my uneducated thought process.
KBS is interesting in that it is a x Candida. But the color is not pink or yellow and kind of pale. I personally do not like the shape of V. Peach and again the color is not pink or yellow. Tequila Sunrise I love but it is a suaveolens and they can be prone to disease.

Amber Rose is interesting for it is Dr. Seuss X EP. But you are adding more of the pink EP genes. Also you have the yellow genes from Dr. Seuss which is great. Dr. Seuss is a natural hybrid so we do not know its background. I also do not remember hearing that Dr. Seuss is prone to disease.

However I always go back to the brug's actual looks for the genes it actually displays I always feel are the more dominant to be passed on. Amber Rose itself seems to be a pale pink so I personally would go with your Dr. Seuss to make a long story short.

LOL. But when you get more blooms you can try a few different ones and make the suspense even more fun.

And Joyce, if you do not get it to pod, do not be dismayed or discouraged! It gets tougher and tougher as winter approaches I find. Also you have to rip that bloom open I find for it is too hard to get up to her stigma with that stuffed skirt. Always a sad thing to do.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow! Thank you so much Kell.. Now I'm going to be getting into the interesting stuff! I've read that like 3 times and keep getting more out of it.. I'm not really that thick headed.. LOL I am just getting a grip on what's what.. I love this part..

So, I tore the outer skirt open.. then took it all the way off.... only to find FLUFFLES!!!!!! They wern't uniform like your pink Fluffles.. LOL They are different sizes and where they get big, it's split. Weird.. Recently, when she dropped a lot of buds, they were ALL the same.. the fluffles are in between the first and second skirt and the second skirt has 7 points and is split.. so it's deformed.. I'm sad...

Her fragrance is to die for.. it's so powerful tonight!

I'm on the hunt for more seeds.. LOL I wanna do this AGAIN.

A lot of double blooms are hinky, Joyce. Some are so thick with petals you can't even figure out what is what, so yours could be just fine. Also the first blooms on doubles can be hinky as can any winter bloom and even in the summer they can toss out a few weirdos. Pollinate it! If nothing else you get some practice. DId you find the stigma?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you AGAIN Kell.. You settle my nerves in a big way. LOL

Yes, I found the stigma.. sure had plenty of insulation! Your right.. it was well hidden. The corolla tube looked like it was gonna burst before I split it.. This is too fun.

This morning the silly thing is so fat and fluffy... it's almost prettier now than it was with the top skirt! LOL I could smell it from 15 feet away..

PS. I have been practicing.. felt more like playing really! I have 5 seed pods.. 2 on Amber Rose and 1 on Tequila Sunrise and 2 on a white seedling. It is just as much fun to find a seed pod as it is a BUD!!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Here is a pic of some of the other blooms that have opened. I love em! I've nicknamed her puff.

ZZ! Great job :) You're so much fun to follow. I just can't wait to get my seeds started. I was given some Tiara (one of my favs) X Mountain Magic seeds by a fellow DG'er and bought a few from Brenda also.
The glass top table incident didn't hurt any plants..Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Thankfully the table was the safety glass and it turned into small rounded pellets, bunches and bunches of them, lol.
God bless everyone :) Margo
