Oh gosh Donna! When did this happen?! That's just terrible. Now my vine incident seems small.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

That's awful!
Do you live by a river or lake?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

no my pond is the lowest part of my property and all my neighbors are higher. We have horrorable Thunders Storms from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. I am talking up to10" of rain. Everything drains down my property toward the pond and of course it was way more than my pond could hold. My poor duck cage is 2' deep in water and their big pool is floating. They don't know what to think. Hope the ground absorbs it quick

Oh, I'm so sorry for you. I have just read bits and pieces but know that you lost a lot (all?) in Katrina. I'm sure rain is very scary for you now. Where are your ducks? Do you raise them?

You are probably tired of talking about it but would you mind either telling me your Katrina story or giving me a thread to read?

Donna - Your rain definitely reminded me of hurricane flooding minus the wind damage. Sorry you got so much rain in such a short period of time. I hope it dries up quickly and things get back to normal. Perhaps you'll have flowers pop up in unusual places next Spring because of this? You just never know! :-)

Whoa...that is a lot of water!!! I do hope the ground absorbs it quickly too!!!

I don't mind Paige. We got 19' of water. I lived in Ocean Springs about 1/4 mile from the beach. here is a link to the pictures we took

Donna - Boy! I hate seeing photos of like that! All too familiar to me! We had considerable ceiling damage to our home, too, but yours looks like it was a total loss. I am so sorry. Several of my neighbors had to have their homes completely gutted and the inside rebuilt. My one neighbor finally got back into her house this past summer after almost 2 years of fighting with the insurance company, her mortgage company, and the contractor! What a nightmare!!! We all break out in panic attacks when hurricane season comes around. All of us NEVER, EVER want to go through that again! I'm sure you feel the same way. Did you move permanently into another home or are you repairing your damaged home?

We moved 18 miles north to the country. We had flood insurance . They decided to total it and it got bull dozed. I still own the 2 lots though

Donna - That's good! Are you happy with your new home? At least your insurance company was fair and just with you. I wish I could say the same here. We were disappointed by state and federal government aid as well as major homeowner's insurance companies and the majority of local contractors in the area at the time. (Many of which went belly up or disappeared after taking folks money.) Do you know that in my area there are still people fighting the system and have blue tarps (which are pretty much deteriorated) on their roofs! They are still fighting the system or they are poor. One of the student's in my class lived with his family in a tent for months. This was a low income family with 4 children - one child being handicapped. Another family of a special needs child was living in the part of their mobile home that was still standing. No doors on the trailer. They hung sheets up! It was slow going to get these families help. And those of us trying to help them were fighting the system at the same time with our own damage. Thank the good Lord we all survived it! I pray never again! The hurricanes were one thing, fighting the system to get the help we were supposed to get was a totally different nightmare! I think the government and insurance companies learned from it and hopefully Katrina victims found receiving help much easier and better. (Though I have heard some horror stories.) We always felt if the hurricanes had hit Washington D.C. or New York city, that Emergency Aid laws might have been changed for the better! Not that I wish that on anyone!

Oops! Got off topic! I tend to get on my soap box concerning that situation! I am so glad that it all worked out okay for you Donna! :-)

My family and I are doing fine now too. As are most others. There are just a small number of folks who are still dealing with this after 2 years. They are in the process of resolving this.

Mercy Donna! That was a close call for sure..I'm just glad everyone is alright!
Has it gone a lot down since yesterday?
