Look at this Begonia!

This is posted on ebay from a seller in Hawaii. Beautiful! It's called "madame queen".

Very nice. She can be a stinker to grow though. I've tried two so far and I'm not sure if the one I have now is actually 'Madame Queen' or something else. I hope it comes through this winter in good condition unlike the previous two.

They look the same to me. Your plant is beautiful! So colorful and frilly! I love begonias but they really, really don't love me. So I look but I've learned not to touch :-(

(Zone 1)

If you ever have cuttings from that one, I'd love to trade! Georgeous!

So pretty! My mom gave me a cutting of one that is very, very similar to that and it is finally growing :-)

After reading your post, I quickly checked out the ebay listing and thought I have to have this begonia. As I sat staring at it, I suddenly remembered I have it, lol. It was one of the last begonias I bought just before I had to bring them all in for the winter. Geesh, this is how I end up with 2 or 3 identical plants. At least this time I remembered as this plant will be costly for someone because of the shipping.

I've done that with anthuriums! I try to take inventory before I hit the "buy" button these days. The begonia is just beautiful though. Wish I had better luck with them. I really don't know what I do wrong.

Tussee you have my taste in beognias. I saw this begonia on eBay yesterday and I emailed Lali about it and she reminded me I too had it. LOL

So far, my Madame Queen is doing good but I do have a few begonias that are failing in the gh. I've set up large drums of water with air stones to create more humidity, but it's just not enough for some. I'm now placing the struggling ones in plastic bags and under grow lights. They grew so well outside this past summer as we have enough humidity to keep them happy.

I have this one, and I find that it does best in the winter time when I put it on the top shelf in the greenhouse and forget to water it LOL. it gets neglected up there, and thus, dries out between waterings, which I hear is what begonias need . And it is thriving, small but very healthy.

Really? Maybe that's what I do wrong. Maybe I water too much. It is very, very humid here in the summer (80 to 100%) so maybe they're drowning in the combination of the humidity and my over watering? I had such a pretty rex this past summer and it just turned brown bit by bit and died.

I have a really hard time with rex's too. And yes, that begonia needs to dry out between waterings. I just checked mine the other day, and the leaves are curling up beautifully on it, and it's growing even in the winter time. and I'm just leaving it alone, watering maybe every week l/2 just enough, not drenching it. same wtih the others, and they seem to do well that way too, I'm gonna move all mine outside this next summer/spring, see if they do better than last year, seems when we had alot of rains, that the cane begonias had powdery mildew constantly from too much moisture. I may wait till may to put them o utside when all the rainy season is over.
