Need H. bandaensis photo

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Does anyone have a good 'foliage shot' of Hoya bandaensis?
I've searched the DG PF and the internet to no avail.

(Just want to see the foliage of this one, not asking to 'use' the photo!)

TIA!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Gee...somewhere in the back of my lizard brain is a conversation where H. bandaensis is a 'non name' for another hoya...H. carnosa? H. australis? Can't remember....

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Curious Nan- did you happen to see this name on Accents? :)

GH

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Accents???????

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

accentsforhomeandgarden.com- that's the only place I've ever seen that name.

It used to be the name used for globulosa at least at Logees.

S

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Yes...globulosa.....but I thought there was *both* a bandaensis and a globulosa?

So there's not? If not.....nevermind, LOL!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

According to an extremely informative post on the MSN forum, H. bandaensis is not currently in circulation but the name has been given to H. australis (a couple of times), H. diversifolia, H. globulosa and...forgive my conjecture here, probably a couple more hoyas.

I, for one, am ever so grateful that our posts here in Dave's Garden are proof read and the corrections posted by the magnanimous Ms. Burton.

Um...OK, sure... me too... I guess.
Maybe I'll be the recipient of the 'Stupid Question of The Day' award.
Oh, well....stupidity and ignorance aren't one and the same, so maybe I'm safe?;)

Was the MSN forum renamed and reorganized?
The reason I ask is that I'd thought I was a member of an MSN forum, but hadn't logged on in quite some time....just tried to, and apparently I'm not registered.

I think you have to be invited to join but I'm sure you would be the "in" group.

I was removed after a short time from that forum for gently chiding the moderator for giving me a lecture.

Good for you, Roy! :-)

They sent you to Disney, eh? LOL As long as it was a gentle chide...LOL

Roy, I was removed too, for (not) gently chiding the moderator. Maybe it's something about Roys?
I recall from some research into H. australis that H. bandaensis WAS confused with this one, so Carol was quite correct in her first statement, and so no correction was needed.
Does that make all of us "twidly-twats"? I'll assume that isn't meant to be as misogynistic as it sounds. :)

As an impartial observer and a lurker on the other site, I can't help but notice how many people contribute to this forum and the small number of people who post on that site. Yes, I do know that DG post are not always 'educational' in a traditional sense of the word. Sometimes they are fun, nice AND educational, but at least here I don't feel intimidated to ask a question that might be construed as 'stupid' by a person with years of experience. Isn't that what we are all here for? To learn? I am. I also enjoy the friendships on this forum. No one feels like a stranger for long unless you choose to, and thats fine too.

I was asked recently by a member of that forum (we were speaking on the phone) why I wouldn't join that group. It's simple: In my opinion, that administrator is mean and likes to make herself look "smarter and better" than other people, kinda' like high school. Why would I subject myself to that when I can lurk and get the info that way?
I can't figure out why anyone would.

As someone recently said, "just my 2 cents worth". Take care all and God bless. -joanne

From the accounts given here, the adm. of that site clearly has some control issues. I wouldn't participate or join either. If you are not mature enough to hear other people's opinions(when tactfully given) and take them in stride, you have no business moderating a forum. Who needs that kind of abuse? Puhleeez!!!!!!!!!

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Alrighty then! Me thinks there is some history here and there. Seems a little tense over there, with regard to DG. Unreal.

Ya think? Read the latest updates - and I wonder who her "informants" are??? It is really sad that this goes on really - like it has been mentioned before DG is fun, whilst that site is informative/educational - Mrs. B is incredibly knowledgeable about Hoyas and I am sure she has forgotten more than most of us know put together, and whilst I do admire the incredible knowledge bank she has, I can't understand why the tone has to be so condescending at all times! There is too much hatred in the world as it is! Hoyas are for our enjoyment and fun, and unless you have botanist listed after your name there is no need to take it soooooo seriously! Ah well, as long as people get enjoyment out of "ratting us out" I guess all is well! :-)

I truly enjoy the people here and the plants I have "acquired" along the way - on that note I want to thank all of you for posting pictures of Hoyas I "must have" - you horrible enablers you!

This was my "2 cents worth and I'll raise you a buck!" LOL

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Just out of curiousity......why is it assumed that there are members of this forum who are "ratting" out other members? I think that it is entirely possible that former members are able to become current members simply by using a friend or family member's computer, and receiving a membership and password as a favor.

I think it would be better all around, to simply take what you need from the informative sites, ignore what you don't like, and try to not be paranoid. Life is full of irritations, and it is sooooo much simpler to pick your battles, hoyas just shouldn't be one of them. Other peoples opinions don't affect my beautiful plants, and unless it is a helpful suggestion, I ignore it, or better yet take it with a grain of salt. I have friends and in-laws that THRIVE in controversy, so much so that if there isn't any current source of it, they will create it themselves.....it is very easy to get sucked in, but I think it is healthier in the long run, to just turn the other cheek.

My $0.02,
S

Edited to add: Last year when I wanted to anonymously file a complaint with my children's former school principal, but was concerned about retaliation by various teachers, I used the computers at our public library to do so. I was able to set up my own anonymous email address, and my computer's cookies, or whatever it is that makes your computer traceable, was not left as a signature with the school system. Now, more than ever, especially with librarys, internet cafes and other accesses, it is very easy to become a member of various forums without using your own identity....

Yes, I know, Sarah, you are right on with all that you said. It does get a little hard though, when you are personally singled out. Like in school when you were tol by the teacher that it didn't matter what other people said about your mother, but how many of us took that to heart and acted on it? Human nature.
Which I will now demonstrate by pointing out that the MSN moderator claimed to have only booted one person off of MSN in it's history, then turned around and admitted to booting three off, with slightly different terminology, but I know of at least 4 people who have been uncerimoniously booted off (including myself).
I should just be thankfull that on DG everyone is allowed to have an opinion (on any topic), not just one moderator.

I think I know and I'm not going to tell!

I agree Sara, and if my memory serves me correct, Chris herself posted that she was a member of this Forum. I think if I look long and hard enough, I could find it.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

She mentioned that her 'informants' told her xyz....and she intimated it would not be difficult to get on DG again...

Altho' I am disgusted by the names she gives the people on this forum, the fact that she enjoys our posts tells me that 1) we are worthy of being read by a selfproclaimed superior person, and 2) she hasn't much else to do but be critical and vituperative because someone else speaks. I feel quite sorry for her...perhaps she could learn to knit?

II do have great sympathy for her... She must have had a dreadful life to end up so bitter. I, for one, don't care if she reads our forum - poor thing, there can't be much here to interest her.

Found it. I would post the whole letter but I just don't think it belongs in this forum. If you read the last 4 sentences of the first paragraph, that is where she states that she is indeed a member of this forum. I hope that I did the link right. The thread should read On quoting excerpts from other forums.

Guess there aren't really any "informants" b/c she's reading the posts herself- under a new identity.
