Norton Antivirus questions

Well, it's that time of year again, I've had 2005 norton antivirus and internet security on my computer. Wanted to know . Instead of subscribing again, can I just delete the 2005 all of it, and install a nother version that I have inmy home. if so, will it install all updates? Does one have to register in order to get all current updates?
