I ordered these and they just came and I cannot find a picture of them...does anyone know what they look like?
Lilium Nepalense
Ignore this please...I just found the picture and have sent Baa a D mail..
Oh Levilyla! This one might be a tuffy for you. Nepalense abhors winter wet. For winter I would actually put a piece of plastic over the area where the bulb is to keep the soil dry. Some growers reportedly dig the bulb each fall and store it in the frig for the winter. Be sure to cover the plastic with mulch or something to keep the sun from heating up the soil during the winter.

Don't forget to drop in now and then at the Lily Forum!
Thank you Leftwood...I should have posted this in the lilly forum. I am not good with difficult things...but I will do everything you and Baa told me to do and pray. Edited to ask....do you think I should wait until spring to plant these and just keep in the frig. overwinter?

I thought I had lusted about this one before, lol
Thanks Wallaby...good information on that thread. I am almost scared to plant them now..LOL. but I will find a shady spot (not hard in my garden) and on a hill and with well drained acid soil. We have alot of clay which would probalbly be death to it but I will amend. I will let you know in the spring.....
levilya...don't expect too much for a start, they can take a couple of years to settle and flower. If you only see one small stem in the first year that is OK, give it time, leave it alone, and it will increase.
Please do let us know, your experiences may help others there.
wallaby1, This past spring I received from an order a most pathetic pea sized soft lump of something which hardly resembled a bulb. But I potted up anyway and stuck it out on the porch for the summer. Well, lo and behold, I now have a very slender bit of growth approaching a whooping 4 inches! I have moved the pot into my greenhouse for the winter. If it ever blooms I will post a picture of it as perhaps my greatest plant survivor story to date. Thank you for the information. Patti
Are you saying I should put these in a greenhouse for the winter and not plant outside????????? I don't have a greenhouse.......... :~(
Patti, they are small bulbs and make new ones on the runners, but it can be a shock to get a little thing for your money! I think mine was a little larger than pea sized though. Good luck with it, and remember it needs sideway room, they grow new shoots sideways. It shouldn't be sending up shoots yet, it's later to grow than many. Perhaps these shoots were meant to be runners underground ready for next year's shoots? Or have the unusual seasons confused it?
levilya, your zone is a little warmer, with plenty of protection it should be OK and far happier in the ground. Plant it, protect it, and forget it, it likes to be left undisturbed.
It will be interesting to see how everyone gets on with this one, quite a few people are trying it for the first time so we should get growing experiences to compare.
