gourd seeds

have lots apple, tall apple gourd seeds, dipper and mixed think got martin in them.kettle thick, few dumbbell. small dipper..

(Hope you're warm up there in Michigan. We presently have 81 degrees here in south Georgia, and I harvested summer squash, a few little cucumbers and several handsful of cherry and grape tomatoes when I went home at lunch time!)

Hope, did any of your gourds have those night-blooming, fringed white flowers? The dipper perhaps? have really missed those

i just got all these fresh from a woman.. i have dipper to. the snake one saw had white flower think.no not night blooming do not think.

Thanks, hope - but am holding out for the night-blooming one with fringed white flowers. When they open up against the sky at the end of the day, they take your breath away in a much more pleasant fashion than when you're in the way of a falling gourd later on - LOL (Actually, if that had really happened with the 6' monsters we grew, I don't think I'd be here to joke about it)

This kind of gourd comes in different shapes, but -

1) all have the same Latin name: Lagenaria siceraria, and

2) the varieties' shapes include: Dipper, Sugar-Trough, Hercules-Club, Bottle, Knob-Kerrie and Trumpet.

The above came from Hortus III, by the Staff of the L. H. Bailey Hortorium. I like it, because in the back appendix, it lists tons of plants by the common names linked to their Latin names which you can look up for descriptions. My copy was on sale for a buck - worth hunting down in second-hand book stores.

Most catalogs today not only don't list their seed by Latin name, but also just name them by an adjective - not even a common name, which can mean any number of different kinds of plants grrr.

Therefore, that is why http://www.jlhudsonseeds.net/SeedlistLA-LE.htm is so great. (Their seed list will continue to grow as donors send in their seed this fall.)

Not only do they name their seed correctly - you know what you're getting. Also, they are so wonderfully informative - I love knowing what part of the world a plant is from and what part it played in the culture of some long-ago, far-away people. They also teach what useful attributes a plant may have in addition to its beauty. They give great germinating and cultural advice and I recall sometimes seeing, in the print catalog, estimated seed viability times...unusual and large variety of seed...I always learn something new everytime I read their catalog.

hope I almost asked you for some, then stopped to think, DH is grumbling about me using all of his garden space, and I think that me wanting to plant gourds would send him off the deep end. So to preserve his mental health, I will decline, but would sure love to find a spot to sneak some in. LOL

I am new but this summer i grew my first gourds. They did pretty good so if you not mind sending me some of any kind I would really appreciate it.. I could send you either money or postage or I do have a few diffrent types of flower seeds...

Let me see.. I am new to this ya know so expect any thing fancy...LOL The only thing that I consider(sp is late for me) is I have Poppies diffrent ones ok I also have zinnia diffrent color mixed, cone flower seeds, Pink Hybiscuss, Gerber Daisy diffrent colors mixed... Now mind you I have never collected seed before from Gerber Daisy,s so not sure if will grow but I am almost postive I have the seed. I also have some others but is almost 2:30am when I seen this and I am going to bed... So I hope you can use something I have... and Hope thanks for answering me... I am new and that means allot....

Hope thank you so much... I did not think you sold seed really I just wanted you to put that in a kitty for postage for others or what ever.... So if you did not keep the money that means you paid for postage for I dont think I put stamps in.... I am brain dead with all going on here with strike and all... Good news... Hubbys job may of off of strike...they have reached an agreement but the people have to vote... :-)
