One of my favorite trees for the full shade and shape they can take on. This one was particularly striking to me.

I grew up with these trees on my family's farm in Shafter, California. They were always 'umbrella' trees to us. I climbed them and had a rope swing hanging from a branch. I always enjoyed the lovely blossoms and the yellow berries. Now that I live in the Ojai area, I also see these trees around here...and that is a comfort of sorts, to know that my hometown tree is now a part of my new hometown.

I hear you Opoe! Many a time I drive by and see one of these trees, and let out a sigh. Nice to know someone else who appreciates them.

:-D

Here is a pic of this tree I photostudio'd with a sunset behind... and a favorite proverb of mine:

Thanks for sharing! Great photo and nice 'proverbial' touch...I have read that inspiring verse many times. Check out Jeffrey Masson's "Slipping into Paradise" for a nice chapter about the trees of New Zealand.

I read somewhere that you can 'bonsai' one of these trees. I tried once, but it didn't work out...will have to try again. I think a bonsai umbrella tree would be quite charming...wonder if it would make tiny yellow berries?
