Just a question about the trade lists...

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

How often are they updated? Probably depends on the member, right? I was looking at some and some of the dates were back in 2001. I had wondered it seeds were requested from these older lists, would they even be available. If you go to the trouble of posting a trade list, how often should it be updated or purged? Any advice? I haven't tried using it yet. Wanted to wait until I found out how it was supposed to function:)
Thanks!
Donna

In a perfect world, it should be updated seasonally, but most of us are very, VERY, bad!

So, would most agree that it is a better idea just to go by the trading forums and not look at the trade lists unless someone directs you to?

I can only speak for myself, but I always like to see what's in someone's lists. Even though the list may not be updated, it gives you an idea of what the person likes so you can make an offer accordingly, and you know what they had, so you know what NOT to offer (unless you have different cultivars).

As far as what they have to offer, the person might still have the same things, and if not, it gives them an idea of what YOU are looking for, so they can counter-offer with something else you might like. Even though I haven't updated my list is ages (a winter project for sure!), I am still looking for alot of things on my list, and still have quite a bit of the same things, though newer. (I grow marigolds and calendula and cosmos and poppies every year, so every year the list remains similar, but the collected seeds are the fresh.)

I hope that made some kind of sense to you - it did to me when it was in my head! LOL!

AND HERE IS WHAT I DO.................when i want something i just post it and i tell them what i have to trade. after i have posted a want i have had people ask me months later if i still wanted whatever it was. it's always a surprise on daves.

That all makes sense=) I look through the trade lists too. And mamajack, you're right about the offers coming in later on...I've been one to offer seeds while browsing older posts and have had some offered to me at a later date. Thanks for all the info!
