Deep fried turkey

I have never deep fried a turkey but after watching Alton Brown on Good Eats this week end I wonder if it is do-able. Did you see him rig that lift to a ladder to lower bird into hot grease and lift after cooking? How do you experienced bird-fryer's do it?
