All these years i know a hoya by the name hoya. I was at a garden center today and the manager tells me hoya is a nick name and any plant book well tell me so. but she could not tell me the botonical name for hoya but sure it startes with an S. All this time am i missing something?
want to know
Hi, jll.
The garden center manager is incorrect. Getting a little wacky here, the following is an overly-extensive breakdown (for use by botanists, not horticulturists) of the hoya lineage:
Superkingdom: Eukarya
Kingdom: Plantae
Division: Magnoliophyta
Rank: Magnoliopsida
Natural Order: Gentianales
Family: Apocynaceae
Sub Family: Asclepiadoideae
Tribe: Marsdenieae
Genus: Hoya
Species: Name of hoya (i.e. pubicalyx, carnosa, etc.)
All most of us really need to know the Genus and the Species name. Now you can take this list to that manager and correct him/her.
Ann
OOOOH my thank you so much
The misinformed manager was probably thinking the word Asclepedaeciae...which is correct...just as hoya is correct...Good breakdown Ann!!!
Thanks Ms. Carol!
