Hey, everyone. Saturday they were offering $20 microchips at our Franklin County shelter in Columbus, Ohio. So I took Darby down to get him chipped, and of course, had to go look at the animals. There I met a beautiful dog named Fergus: http://www.franklincountydogs.com/dog_view.asp?id=5556
Fergus was in no way the type of dog I was looking for; a small, submissive female. He is a beautiful, dignified, 52 pound terrier mix, very much resembling a giant Scottish Terrier. His manner in the cage was so calm considering the chaos of barking, howling dogs around him. He just looked at me with his dark, expressive eyes and pressed his furry body against the bars, begging to be petted and loved.
I couldn't help myself, and went to the desk to ask about him. "Must be an 'only' dog!" they told me. Next was "Agressive towards cats!" Sadly, I knew Fergus was not the dog for my family.
But maybe he would be right for someone else? If you know someone who is looking for a first dog - perhaps a young man who would love a great dog to run and hike with? Or someone who has had experience with rehabilitating those "only dogs" and can bring them into their family?
I know every dog has a story at the shelter, but I just can't get Fergus out of my mind. He may not be the right dog for me, but maybe there is a family for him somewhere?
