Hi everyone. I am heading out to dig up my geraniums, some of which are still blooming!!!! But we are in for rain and more rain, so thought I'd better get them out. How do all of you store your geraniums??? I have done some reading, and one that kept coming up was to dry off the roots, then store them upside down in a paper bag in a cool dry place.
Sound familiar?? Anyone have other ideas??
Thanks.

Overwintering Geraniums??
We just cut them back, leave them in their pots and store them in the garage for the winter. If they're in with other plants that we're not wanting to keep we'll dig them up and put them all in one big pot and store them in the garage. It seems to work fine.

I have been successful with pulling them up and shaking most of the dirt off and then clumping them in a 5 gallon pail and sticking them in the cold dark basement. I spinkle a bit of water on them every month and then when they start to sprout I plant them up cutting of the dead stuff and not putting them in the sun till the sprouts are darker green.
I also have taken cuttings and left them in a basement window for the winter , they get a bit leggy but I just plant them deep in the spring. I try to keep them on the drier side as they stay better this way.
My mom cuts them back and brings in the pot and all , Just like Sandy. She does water them a bit but they don't need much as they are in the basement too.
Any one of these ways works just don't get caught up with having them all make it.
I think this topic was reviewed in another forum , maybe the container one, I will try to remember for you.

Thanks ladies. I appreciate your responses, since I have never done this before. I have already dug them up as they were in large pots with trees in the middle. Trees are too big to come in!!!!
I have them laying in the mesh wagon to dry out, then will put them in a pail or paper bag. No room in my house, but we have another building on the property where they can be in the dark and cool for the winter. I will be very happy to get even some of them to overwinter!!
Thanks again.
Glenda
