Indoor bloomfest

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

My hibiscus have all been brought inside for the winter and this is the flower that greeted me in my bedroom sun window on Thursday morning. They all had bunches of buds when I brought them in and they have begun to come out inside. It's great. I am enjoying it since they will now kinda go dormant for the winter. They will each put out a flower or two, but nothing tremendous until they get back outside again next summer.
This is a picture of a double pink, nameless, from the grocery store. It occasionally has single flowers also. I love the dark color contrast in the throat. I love hibiscus!

Martha,
Very pretty! It's fun to have something bloom inside when the weather outside is so dreary. It was 75 degrees 2 days ago, yesterday it turned winter again, dropped to 35 degrees in about an hour.

I have mostly large plants but I have deep plastic saucers under most of them so I water thouroughly about once a week. If it has been really sunny, then maybe a little more. I have a red one in my dining room that is 22 years old. It is blooming like crazy now. They dropped a bunch of leaves, but they always do that when they come in. I think they are like maple trees at heart. When they get some autumn, they shed some leaves. but I will enjoy them all winter. They got some Osmacote a couple of weeks back and that is helping them to leaf out again.

Wow! Pretty Hibiscus ... and you say you grow them indoors in the winter, huh? I've never thought to try that ... ours down here in the south stay in the ground all year round, cold, frost or not! But, we only have a short winter in my area, if we have winter weather at all it's usually in January and February. The ones planted in the ground get really huge! I have a couple of small ones, in pots in my pool enclosure, along with LOTS of other plants, and if we are forcast for cold or frost, I just move them up under the covered deck and cover them with old sheets or blankets! If the ones in the ground get hit by frost or a hard freeze, they come back from the roots in spring!

Well, Lin,
Here in Massachusetts, it is too cold {usually} by this time for hibiscus outdoors. Some people buy them from Homey D's and put them in the ground as annuals around here, but I could never let one go. I have a plant shelf outside that they stay on all summer, all except the one trained as a standard tree and they come in around October just before the first frost. I have a sunroom where most of them live all winter. They have tons of buds right now since they built them up in August and September and are blooming profusely at the moment. They will slow down over the winter and just grow a few flowers until spring. I love them all even though I only know the name of one.

Ooooh, pretty!! I have one that is giving me a lot of joy inside, too. It bloomed a lot outside, and stopped for a bit. I brought it in about a month or so ago, and now it's a blooming machine. Don't know which one it is, but is there anything more cheery and gorgeous on a gray fall day than a newly-opening bud?

I have two red ones on a plant in my dining room that bloomed for today. Others have buds that will bloom in the next few weeks, should the sun ever come out again. It has been raining for 24 hours! I need some sun!

what a stunning color! Your hibiscus is beautiful.

Thanks, ms_merae! It's a much deeper color when it's opening, and fades quite a bit once it's totally open. I love the deeper color, but it's still very pretty to me, even when it's fully open and paler pinky-peach. Here's a picture of my first indoor bloom, which is the deeper color, but subsequent indoor blooms have been several shades lighter.
