Giant man-eating Pickrel weed removal?

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

My big pond has a leak so I've got to clean it out and power wash it for repairs. My pickrel weed has become Eat-Norm-US and I've been trying for a week to get it out, chopping and pulling, chopping and pulling but only made a tiny bit of progress. Anyone got a sure way of getting it out w/o use of dynamite? The orginal plant was in a pot but probably has died off . New growth is just growing roots in water except where it's invaded other potted plants.

My dr.has me on light duty because of torn muscle in shoulder and neck so I need an easy way to get it out.

Backhoe maybe??? Just kidding, Can you get anything like a rope under it? If so, you can use a ratchet set and do it that way. It will be the same principle just a lot easier on your muscles.

I think this is a job for "Superhubby"...LOL

He has a trackhoe but it reeks havoc on the lawn.

Wished I was closer. I'd help you get it out (for a few sprigs of plant).
That is another possibility to check into a water garden store that might help you get it out for part of the plant.

much as I hated it..."Superrhubby" had to use his trackhoe. It's out, along w/ all my other plants..laying in the yard where I have to untangle it from the water iris, water celery, horsetail rush, and other plants. I'm hoping I didn't loose my lizards tail. I don't see it in the tangle.

I hacked, pulled, dipped out and hauled off two wheelbarrowfull of it and floating hearts to the compost pile before I gave up and called in "Superhubby".

cagananimallover,
'fraid I couldn't let you take just a sprig. It'd be a whole darn truckload or nothing...LOL

:-( [I'm sad] If I was close enough, I'd have taken it. Sorry you had so much trouble.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

and I would have certainly let you have it but it will live on as compost for the rest of my gardens.

Hey CAG,
I have pickerel that you can get part of this spring when we clean up the pond. Remind me when we have our first swap in the area and I will bring you some.
P,
The first season or two we had our pond elephant ears took over, we don't allow them in the pond anymore! I feel your flustration.

Sheila,
had that problem as well...still trying to kill out the ones that climbed out onto dry land and keep trying to take over the lawn.
