my first cutting!

Southern, LA(Zone 8b)

Just got my first 2 cutting and I have them in a glass of water in my kitchen window.
Do yall think it will be fine there? I will change the water every week.
Ive read alot of talk about pollinating. Do I have to worry about that now? because it sounds a little complicated.
1 more question. Being in zone 8b should i wait till spring to plant outside?
Thank you so much.

You go girl !

Just don't let the sun get to it or you could end up with brug 'soup' ;-(

Wait for Spring and no frost to plant outside.

Do not worry about pollinating until you have blooms from 2 different brugs next Summer.

That will give you time to study up on making brug babies ;-D

Good luck to you Mary!

Hoping your babies root like crazy for you. I would change the water whenever you think about it. They seem to like cool water in the glass.

A bubbler is a good way to go. 'Shadowgirl' gave detailed instructions on rooting brug cuttings on a Mid-South Forum thread: go to home page, Memberlist Tab, enter her user name then to to the section that says "threads shadowgirl has started", it will give you a listing, further define with Mid-South Gardening and just page until you see Brug Cuttings or some such listing. Are you expecting additional cuttings?

Would you like for people to send you cuttings????

Judy - Thanks for the thread..the bubbler sounds easy...WM here I come..
Does the bubbler method also work well for other plant cuttings?

I think it does Mary but I am no bubbler expert. Congrats on your first 2 brugs. You will love them. Make sure you post pictures of your first flowers. You will be so excited.

There are a lot of great brug people in and around Louisiana, Mary! In fact there is a little get together going on this weekend that I almost went to but I chickened out last week because I hate to fly. They are all really nice people and I bet if you live near any of them, you could see their brugs next summer and your eyes will really go big with wonder.

Mary,

Anything that can be rooted in water does great in a bubbler. Other than brugs, I've rooted begonias, philodendron, hardy hibiscus and pothos. If you are new to propagating, you might want to look at the information on this link http://muextension.missouri.edu/xplor/agguides/hort/g06560.htm

You'll soon have more plants than places to put them ... I speak from experience on this!! lol lol

Here is another link. It's a forum and people are posting what all they have rooted in water. http://www.gardenguides.com/forum/showthread.php?s=638f71aa80283c03cdb0acb4bff32440&t=18592&page=1

Kell,

Who is left living in Louisiana that has brugs? It would be good to put "louisianamom"
in touch with them, especially if they're having a mini-roundup this weekend. If I know them I'll contact them about the possibility of her attending.

Judy

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well hi Judy!! Sorry you misunderstood, as I said it is a get together not a round up. Susie and I were both were planning on going but sadly we both can't now. There are actually a lot of people growing them in that area. I am sure in the summer Donna would be thrilled to have Mary come see hers and put her into contact with everyone else if she lives close to them. Not much going on now I do not think.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Oh too bad. Donna lives in MS I don't know how far it would be for LAmom. LA should have loads of blooms right about now, I don't think their temps have hit low enough to do damage. I've only had mine inside for a few days. Sure hated to cut off those buds and seed pods!!!

Judy

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think Donna is pretty close for when we have talked about me coming to visit in the past she has said I could easily see my sister in New Orleans. I do not know the area myself but I always assumed it is pretty close. When I said around LA, I meant surrounding it. I do not know about the blooms, but I got the impression from Donna there weren't many for she was hoping a seedling of mine that had a bud on it would open for the gathering but it just fell off and I thought it was do to the weather.
