suggestions/tips for moving pets

Ok, we are a big gang here and I need some tips!

Our big move is going to happen very soon. I am not so much worried about moving my dogs, livestock and fowl...I know they will all travel well. My concern is my 14 cats. They will all travel with me inside our Mid sized van. However, I am in need of ideas to make stackable carrying cages, the big pet taxis are over 100 bucks!...I was thinking on the line of making cages out of wood and wire, something simple. I was also thinking of big rubbermaid totes(big enough for standing room and moving around) with many, many holes drilled in the sides, along with comfty old blankets.

We will be traveling on the upwards of 9-10 hours straight. I am looking for any ideas to make the move less stressful on the kitties.... and ME!

Any ideas folks?
