Storing Heliconia Rhizomes

Wesley Chapel, FL(Zone 9a)

Does anybody store their heliconia rhizomes for the winter? Any trick to it?

I have several that I received in trade. They're in pots, not going anywhere - it's not hot enough for them. I don't want them to rot in the soil. I can't find any info on the web.

Steve , I have one and I leave it in the ground. It dies back in the winter and comes back in the spring. Give it a little 10-10-10 in the spring , that works for me.

I dont know what kind you have but I have "parrots beak" it has orange flowers grows about 3ft.

Mine aren't in the ground - they're in pots. I'm concerned about the rhizomes rotting; they're not growing, because it's too cold.

Well I have a few in pots and I agree they are not growing because its colder out now. I plan to just let the ones in the pots( outside of course) die back store them in the garage and set them out again in spring. you could prob wrap them in bubble rap mulch the pot and just leave it outside.

If you have the same kind as I do and something happens to them over the winter, I'll send you as much as you want in the spring. I have ton's
