Here in 7b, H. coronaria gets cut down by frosts before they bloom out. In my yard anyway.
I noticed what appears to be a fruit forming in the earliest scape and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether cutting it and taking it inside to a sunny window will continue the formation of seeds......
I don't need the seeds, they weren't crosses, but it would be interesting to get some anyway to see what comes from them.
Robert.
Getting seed from Butterfly Ginger?
Gosh o mighty, where is everybody? LOL
Robert, since the frost is going to zap it anyway, go for it.
Cut the scape and place it in a glass of water. Thinking maybe the water
will xtend the life of the scape while your fruit matures a little more.
I could be wrong and the water might just make the scape rot so a drop
of bleach perhaps in the glass. Keep the water clean
Bright light instead of total sun. Total guesswork on my part Robert.

Well, I was going to cut it anyway, just as you suggest........
But by the time I got to it, it was already turned to mush by the cold. :-( I didn't hink it had gotten frosted so badly, by yes it had.
Robert.
Robert, Hopefully you can try next year.
I'll do that, and I will try pollinating some of the first blooms to help out.
Robert.
