new hybrid seedlings

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

This is a new seedling blooming for the first time, has tons of buds on it, 6 inch flower that is a deep red with a deep pink eye, hard to distinguish from digital pics. The plant is in an 8 inch pot and is about 9 months old from seed. This is the second day so some brown spots are seen on the petals. Some waffling texture.

Wow Eclipse!! Both are gorgeous!! Congratulations :) I can only hope my seedlings turn out as stunning as those! Your plants look nice and happy :)

Very pretty, I can see the dark center. I just did my first try at hybernizing a couple days ago. Hope it works as well as yours.

another pic of the red seedling, total plant is 25 inches high in an 8 inch pot.according to improved standards of hibiscus breeding an upright growing , well branched plant is what to breed for. Looks like it fits the bill so far. :-)

Alice, no I haven't. still in the evaluation stages. This one was a bud dropper at first...so I want to make sure that it was climate caused and not genetic. I just wish I had kept track of the crosses in the beginning. I do now. Dave you will have to watch the forum for more data as I evaluate it for release. Most of my hybrid seedlings are upright growers that bloom in a short time. Some can take years to bloom from seeds. If they take too long I set them in another spot and watch them.

So vibrant Kyle. I can't believe you have so many seedlings going. I have one seedling getting ready to bloom soon. It is the first and only one I have. I haven't been able to get any pods to set in more than 2 yrs.

Dott I have learned that some hibiscus never set seed and others have infertile pollen, so it takes many tries to get seeds. I have a Sahara wind the sets seeds EVERY time I cross it. Many of my hybrids were made using this plant.
