Stevia

Milton, VT(Zone 4a)

I live in Vermont and was wondering I might overwinter some stevia plants. Should I make bareroots and store then, if so how do I do that, or shold I pot them and stick them in my pasement.

Thanks

The stevia I had didn't even like getting chilled, let along trying to overwinter. I would say that in the house in a sunny western or southern window is they best way to go.

I'm interested in growing stevia, Is it easy to use?? do you have to dry the leaves to use it?

If you are making tea, you can just add a few fresh stevia leaves to the teapot to sweeten it.

Kayaker,
my stevia is grumpy right now because it's being quarantined in a cool, dim garage before I bring it in for the winter. If you have a sunny window for the plant, put it in a pot and trim it back to a few stems about 4 to 6" long. It will resprout and you'll avoid some of the bug problems I've had in the past. Watch out for whiteflies and aphids while it's in the house. If you want more plants you can put the cut off tops in perlite with rooting hormone. Just check for bugs before you stick them. Good luck!
