For any of you who may be close to Ottawa, at least two of the Canadian DG members will be involved in a concert collaborration next Monday - Nov. 13, when the Ottawa Symphony (in which I play viola) and the Ottawa Choral Society (in which Andycdn sings bass) team up to perform the beautiful, lush Brahms, "Ein Deutsches Requiem". And soprano soloist Monica Whicher will join the Ottawa Symphony in the "Four Last Songs" of Strauss which are among the most beautiful songs I've ever played. Concert is in the National Arts Centre Southam Hall at 8 pm. While the websites do not mention it, I believe that the concert is dedicated to the memory of Marion Pickering who passed away Oct. 4, 2005. Marion was General Manager of the Ottawa Symphony for many years and also sang and was active in the leadership of the Ottawa Choral Society. http://www.ottawasymphony.com/concerts/listings.php?lang=en

Hope that some of you who are close enough will join us for this occasion.

Ottawa Area Concert - Brahms Requiem Nov 13
Thanks Ann, for giving dertails, love to read about concerts, especially the ones I am familiar with
Oh boy, Ann. Although I'm close by, since my taste in music runs more toward The Killers, Low Millions and Enigma, it's a stretch to say I'll be there. Although I'm sure the cultural experience would be a major plus! One thing I know is that you are a class act and I wish you guys all the best and am quite sure you will deliver a wonderful experience for the whole audience. Maybe I should consider stretching my musical horizons. Would you meet me halfway at say, Alanis Morissette? LOL
Sandy
Not quite sure that Alanis is half way. LOL
Oh Sandy GO! It will be gorgeous! Expand your musical horizons!

Ann, I wish I were closer as I'd love to go! The ticket pricing is so reasonable too! I wonder if Gary would consider a couple days away from work, hmmm.
Sandy, what on earth kinda music are you listening to?! I've never heard of those bands you listed before (sheesh, I must live a sheltered life).
I love Andrea Bocelli....don't care that I can't always understand the words but that man has the most beautiful voice.
Oh, I love Andrea Bocelli too! I'll put him on when I want some soothing music, but I love to dance, so most of the time I listen to upbeat music, and I'm groovin' in the garden pulling weeds. It is one of the advantages of living in the bush! I can also go out in my 'jammies if I feel like it. While the potential for embarassment is quite high, so far-so good.
Have you guys heard Josh Groban's new song 'You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)' ? Very uplifting music and words.
Sandy
Ann,
So, how did the concert go last night? Hope all went well.
Sandy
Went well. Southam Hall was close to capacity and the audience seemed to really like it. I got a chance to speak with Andy a bit at a reception following the concert (not the normal reception, but one to remember marion and announce a bursery in her honor - obviously looking for donations). Haven't seen the review yet - actually forgot to look for it, but often our reviews aren't in the paper until Wednesday.

The concert was ravishing! I got a little light-headed singing high notes in #6 and worried I might pass out with the intensity. What a gorgeous experience!
It was great to meet Ann in person, despite my giddiness, and I tried to make sense with a little garden chat. And calm down. People don't realize how physical and emotional singing can be. It's very hard work! I was a wreck when I got home.
What a treat for those that were able to go! Glad to see it went so well and that you two were able to perform together :).
Yeah, I bet you guys rocked! (so to speak, lol)
