Solved: My dd gave me a pot full of these which I split up- this one is starting to bloom, but it had no name.

The only thing to be sure is that it is a Billbergia, but there are many that look alike. I'll hazard a guess at Billbergia brachysiphon but since there are far more Billbergia hybrids than species it's impossible to know for sure. When the flowers show (probably almost spent by now), go here http://fcbs.org/pictures.htm than navigate the photo index to Billbergias. They are very showy, but alas, the flowers do not last long at all.
