E-baying...E-nonying!

Why do people like bidding for things on Ebay? I was surfing epsicia pages and a link took me to ebay auction. There was a collection of 5 different stolons that caught my eye and on a quirk I placed a bid...shot down...placed another bid...shot down...and placed a third bid and got shot down again. I know some folks like to do auctions but it just ticks me off. Show me what I want and I'll "show ya da munny"...Lot less aggravating and you generally can get it cheaper.

You are right, in most cases it is much cheaper to buy elsewhere or trade w/ friends. Of course sometimes you can't find what you are looking for elsewhere. I have been shot down so many times but boy when I win, and especially when no one else wants what I want and the price stays low, woo hoo!

I sometimes wonder what those folks are thinking when they bid little plants up to 20.00 or more- strange that they could buy the same plant elsewhere for 4.50. Go figure.

By the way, what were you looking for, possibly I may be of some help.

April,
Open any epsicia link that has a big var. of cultivars...strike "Faded Jade","Strawberry Patch" and "Silver Sheen"...all others are fair game....LOL. I was looking at "Bird,Blooms and Butterflies"(I think I got those in the right order)webpage and bidding on stolons from her collection.

I LOVE ebay, and have gotten lots of exotic plants I could never find elsewhere. You have to know what you are looking for and what is a reasonable price. I have gotten good deals, and those auctions where the price goes too high....I just don't bother to bid!

P, I'm growing E. 'Blue Nile', E. 'Teddy Bear', E. 'Chocolate Soldier', and a couple of noids in addition to the 'Strawberry Patch' you shared with me. I've put stolons down, and hopefully I'll have them for you in spring -- so don't go shelling out big bucks for stolons of those varieties. :-)

I think eBay and similar sites (like the Lily Auction) can be fun, but I have to say that I like the vendors that offer "buy it now" pricing also.

Sometimes it helps to think of different ways the plant could accidentally be spelled. Some people list their plants and mispell them so that when you do a search, it wouldn't usually show up. I've saved that way before but it's not extremely common. ; )
