Y or not to bloom??

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i have a brug that has formed the y and is flowering but on a stalk that has no y its putting out 2 flower buds. i thought only at Y s do they put flower buds??

Imzadi your stalk with the two buds probably came from an above the Y cutting.
A cutting from above the Y (generative zone) can flower without having to grow another Y since it has already come from above the Y.
A trunk cutting below the Y(vegetative zone) must grow a Y before it can flower.
Hope this makes sense.

I have had some Brugs growing in a pot but so far no Y and no flowers. I've repotted them sto larger pots I obtained from a landscaper in a new apartment complex and the Brugs have continue to grow but still "no Y". Now they are about 4' tall and Im wondering if I should try to get them indoors for the winter. We dont really get severe winters in San Antonio but last year we had 3-4 days that were cold by our standards. Any advice?

Anaid,
You'll have to take them indoors. I went out of town in November last year and didn't return until a few hours before our first frost. I got what I could into my greenhouse, but had to leave a few potted plants out overnight. I got them into the greenhouse the following day. Those growing in 30" pots made it. The ones in smaller pots didn't. If you have a garage, you could overwinter them there.

So if they are in pots the need to come in, but you can leave them if they are in the ground, right?

yes they need to come in if in pots. wow how quick a thread goes to other issues. hehe
