trois - Very nice photo of a Red Admiral! I never see them, but they must be pretty common in Texas since so many have photos of them. Aren't they the butterflies that like weeds as they host plant? Anyone know?

Thanks DonnaB and beckygardener. That is the first one I have seen. I don't think they like the coastal area where we live.

Very nice! According to the Florida gardening books we are supposed to get them. I haven't seen one either.

There seem to be many about a hundred miles North of here. They must be afraid of hurricanes, being Admirals.

lol Trios. I never saw them living near the gulf and have only seen them here in the country late winter/early spring. think they like wooded areas

We have woods. It must be plant specific.

most are Trios. If there isn't a Host plant nearby they won't stay

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

I usually have a lot of them in the spring. I think they use nettles. (Hmmm, I think I'll have to refer to that extensive host plant list I saw) This one looks like it's had a long flight from somewhere. I'm sure it was quite pleased at the things Trois has planted to feed on!
