Inquiring Minds Wanna Know

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I haven't had to swipe anymore buds... they are dropping on the ground fast.. This bud is off one I already know will be a double.. but what I wanna know is...
Is this how a double normally looks?? I wanna know if that is fluffles or a 3rd skirt, or shreds.. I'm dying to know.. and while your at it.. please tell me it's gonna have time to open... and have COLOR!! LOL
If I have to wait til next year, I'll be a total vegetable by then..

LOL Joyce, I usually do not look at doubles like that. So I have no clue if it is "normal." I will tell you that they have all sorts of odd things going on inside of them. I wish I had taken a pic of the guts of one I ripped open yesterday. It was packed with all sorts of weird petals.
It will be too far gone looking now.

But they have extra thingies inside. Sometimes extra anthers too which can be in between other weird petals. I have noticed not all doubles are what I call clean doubles with just 2 skirts that you can look up easily with no extra petals anywhere. And different flowers on the same tree can have different layers of petals.

Is your weather changing fast and causing the bud drop? Lots of time it is the light change. The trouble with them blooming now is they won't show their true selves. The could look so different in the heat of summer. I sure hope you get a great colored one.

Here is a new one that just opened for me. It is thick with extra petals. It is the one I ripped open. It had so many layers of petals inside, long and short. It was heavy! Here it is a bit old, I didn't see it till late.

If you ever get that one to act "normal" Kell, it will be a beauty!

Leave it to me (the one with absolutely NO patience) to open buds that are nearly microscopic and find something that is just common! LOL Okay.. so I want fluffles too.. LOL Peachy colored double with fluffles... that's it.

Yes, the weather is getting pretty cold... it warms up quite a bit during the day, but not for long..
Also, they are all looking like they are trying to reach for sun..

I just want this one to open, but I am really loosing enthusiasm cause you can see through the calyx in the morning sun and the lil tendrils are still not moving down very fast anymore.. they stalled out about 1/2 way down.... the buds are sure fat... I like that!

Oh you want fluffles. LOL. Well what do I know? You can still get fluffles. LOL!

Fluffles will be growths coming out of the corolla tube. Are yours growths or flap like thingies?

Oh Gloria, it is normal enough. I love it.

Here is one of the weird brugs.

LOL That IS weird... I cracked up when I saw that.. Maby I should shut up and just be happy I will have a double!!! The little growths are between the first & second skirts and then only the long ones stick out at the top.. the others look like flaps.. so would that make em flappels?? LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Joyce, you have achieved flapples. LOL Or in other words you are flappled. heck, I always thought you acted flappily.

It's so hard waiting for blooms to open especially if you know it's going to be a double.
It takes the buds longer to grow and open this time of year because of the cooler temps and less hours of sunlight .
It's also the time of year where deformities are common, blooms are smaller and the color could be completely different from what it will be in the summer.
Your buds look like they have very nice tendrils and I hope you will have time to see them open this year but next summer will show you what the true looks of your flower will be.

This was so perfect to start my day with! LOL I am smiling soooo big... and can't stop giggling.. Kell, your just great..

Let me get this straight.. is it Flapp ILY or Flap Pil y or FLAPP ily I may have flapples but I wanted fluffles..... LOL

Thank you Snowhermit.. The main thing I worry about now is knowing it's a double.. that makes it a favorite and that usually marks it for a sure death sentence! I keep thinking I should go get a cutting cause it's outside in the ground.. I don't DARE dig it up.

Edited to say... At my age, I keep getting more flaps all the time! LOL
