A new hybrid

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

This is a new hybrid from Monika. I started the seed about a year ago and it bloomed one big flush before frost. The name was suggested by my friend, Trish. I can't wait to see her blooming again next summer.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Shirley, she's gorgeous. You and Monika together make a great brug team.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone. She was a lot better looking in the garden. My camera doesn't take the best pictures and this one was kind of dark. Next year, I'll try to do better. So many of the brugs in the US wouldn't be here now were it not for Monika.

Thanks Donna. It's so much fun growing them from seed and wondering what they will look like when it's bloom time.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

I can see that. I have brugs started from seeds but my tags seem to always vanish and than I don't know what is what. You just have the touch!

Now I am really confuse!!! You pollinate brugs and name them??? Do you register and patent too? No wonder that if I google a variety, it is no such thing?? I am very naive but it is fun I think. I am new with this forum, frequent water gardening and hosta but this forum is fascinating!!! I think naming it is nice. I have to do it next year. Bellie

Shirley, she is lovely !! I love those long trendils.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone.

Bellie, I do pollinate and make seed pods, then grow seed but most seed ends up producting a plant that is a look alike and so I toss most. Once in a while a good one slips through and will be named. I have named and registered a couple of my brugs, but putting a patent on a brug is way to costly and I think only one brug has ever been patented. That is Snowbank.

This particular brug is not from my own personal seed. It came from Monika, in Germany. Each year possible, she sends seeds to some of us and we help her grow them out. This is where our first double pinks came from. The brugs Monika and Day Dreams were from her seeds. Several people grew seeds for her who were/are members of this forum. Kell, Susie, Tracey, Eva, Alice, Renee, Frannie, Shelly, Terry, and others, including myself. This has helped bring a lot of the German brug genes to the states and it was very nice of Monika to do this for everyone in the US. Some of the new brugs from her seed are Magnifique, Edna, Dream Angel, Masquerade, Destiny, Day Dreams, Monika, and others. She doesn't get enough credit for all she has done to help the US in acquiring the genes to make our own pretty brugs now. To top it all off, she is a good friend and most people really appreciate her help, not only with the seeds, but her knowledge from 30 + years of growing brugmansia.
