How cool is this?

A new sport from Tibouchina urvilleana. Needless to say I need it. I saw it at a nursery yesterday and they are trying to propagate it. It was quite large.

Hard not to love if you are into variagates.

Thanks Kell! I was talking about the variegated one just the other day and wanting to bring it in. Shouldn't be hard to propagate.

What a beauty with those rosy blushes making it all the more interesting.

Oooooooooo........ That's a keeper.

Cool, Kell! I like it, and hope they are able to propagate this one!

Ooooh... I like it too...but I'd best figure out how to overwinter the green one before I even *think about* trying a variegate!!

Oh Growin, can we see a picture? I saw another variegated one on Dave's but it hardly had any variegation.

The new growth is so pretty too.

I have a variegated one but it's not nearly as nice looking as that one! Mine has much narrower bands of white around the edges of the leaves, it's a little more variegated looking than the pictures in Plant Files but still not as nice as this.

Kell, I think you should buy that one and propagate it for your friends here at DG. It is nicer than the ones I found online. I was just mentioning to the botanical gardens about the variegated one and Athens which is apparently hardy. I was suggesting they get it for display. Kell, did they have many of them?

Which nursery was it? Every time I see a new Tibouchina I have to have it so would love to know where to keep my eye out for it if they're successful propagating it!

GOTTA HAVE THAT. What do they call this variety? I am a total sucker for variegated leaves of any kind....

Kell, tell em to send it to me I'll reproduce it...! ;-)

Really Kyle, you with the magic touch. !! The guy said he hadn't tried to propagate it yet but it was a small tree. I bet he is having a tough time rooting it. He did say it is not easy to grow, very sensitive. But it didn't look sickly.

Had I thought fast enough, I would have talked up the girl I was with, Lali, and gotten him to give her a piece to root at the San Francisco Arboretum where she works.

Anyway, I will be watching for these!! Growin, I wish I coud buy it! Not for sale yet. And no name yet Dutchlady. Made me nuts. LOL. I Love variegates too.

Remember I have first dibs!! LOL!! Ecrane, it is Magic Garden in Berkeley. And you may want to go there. Didn't you want that one I found over in Half Moon Bay? I was going to email you.

When I was so hot on that one's trail, I found a friend had one in his yard. He is a nursery guy I know so he is rooting that one for me and he had told me he had bought his at Magic Gardens years ago. The only place he ever saw it and he is in the business.

So half way around the nursery I remembered this and went to look for it but only found the more common ones of Tibouchina. When I went to check out at the register, I just mentioned I had heard he had this one at some point in time and he said there is one 2 feet behind you. LOL. And so there was a small one in a 5 gallon can. He had 3 in 2 gallon cans too. I think they were $24. Mine was $39. A bit much but I was enthralled with it. I am nervous to see it bloom for there are so many different pics of it, I sure hope it is the one I fell in love with!

Here is the Half Moon Bay one I fell in love with in August. LOL. Took me 2 months to get my hands on one. It has so much red in the stems and borders on the leaves. With the purple, it is so royal looking.

And Dutchlady, I also saw an incredible variegated ginger sport and also a hebe that was to die for. When I got home and was looking at my pictures I could not figure out where my brain was. I didn't bring this baby home. It will be covered in purple flowers in spring. What was I thinking?? I am going back. LOL

I was actually planning on heading up to Magic Gardens tomorrow--hopefully they're not all gone yet!

I think it's too hot here for hebe, but I spotted a very nice variegated ginger at a nursery the other day and I had the same reaction in the evening - WHAT was I thinking not getting it? I will go back for it. I know they will still have it; this is a wonderful nursery but the clientele is very conservative.... anything out ot the ordinary will just sit there. Their prices are way up there but every once in a while...... well I think I deserve a treat, don't you? LOL

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Go for it Hety; you deserve it. We will be the enablers and then you can share.......LOL
