CLOSED: SASBE: Desmanthus illinoensis

Madison, WI

I got the seeds for this plant 2 seasons ago. Now I have 4 plants that die to the ground
in my zone, I wish they did not - love the foliage, flowers are quite nice too. The whole
plant is quite airy. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/61021/index.html

Anyway, they set seeds readily so I have a bunch to offer for postage. Of cause you can
trade for them if you prefer.

Mike,
I'll gladly send to UK, but am not sure if the seeds from UK would get here. I had a trade just last month and
US customs stopped 12 packets of seeds. Did you successfully trade with US gardeners before?

I have some seeds for Job's tears. It is a cornlike plant that has seeds like beads and can be used for crafts.
I have tried to grow the bundle flower several times and have not had any germination. So Of course I want to try again. LOL

Columbia Station, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi ..I would love to try 2 or 3 seeds...it looks most interesting. Could you Dmail me to let me know where to send postage...how many (postage stamps i.e.) ? and let me know if you want the bubble type envelope.

Windy, 90% of my garden is shade so I am more interested
to swap for bulb-type plants or shade perennials.
Send me a SASBE or SASE with a piece of bubble sheet
to wrap the seeds in.

gammy3,
Send me a SASBE or SASE with a piece of bubble sheet
to wrap the seeds in. I'll send you 10-15 seeds. I am not sure of
the actual postage required. When in doubt, I place 2 1st class stamps.

Madison, WI

I had good success with starting it from seed with no fuss at all.
This site gives some background info and advises to soak the seeds
for 12 hours in warm water prior to sowing. http://www.robsplants.com/plants/DesmaIllin.php
It did not self seed for me yet.

I would love to try this. Here is my trade list. I just harvested the pink turtleheads, bloodydock and purple cleome.
I hope we can trade...I love the unusual in my gardens...attached is a pic of the purple cleomes. They were big and beautiful.

Theresa,
What a tempting list! I am hooked and you have d-mail :)

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Sorry, I don't have any shade. LOL
You can give the seeds to someone else. I really prefer trades to sasbe, and cannot accomodate your need. Thanks anyway.

Oh how cool is that? If there are a few seeds left, please tell me what's on your wish list that you'd be willing to trade for. I have a lot of goodies.

Did I read you right that this plant likes shade? I would be willing to try them for postage or trade. ~~~ Carol

Madison, WI

Carol,
No, it does not like shade. It does well in sun to light shade.
In my garden the 4 plants take a good deal of the 10% of full sun area I have.
I will be moving the plants closer to the edge of the woods next spring for two
reasons: one - it is getting bigger, two - I am running out of full sun area as
I am getting more plants that require full sun.

Madison, WI

imzadi, sasbe is fine.

Madison, WI

blpender,
Would you D-mail me what you have among perennials hardy to my zone?
I am sure we can figure out a trade.
