Hi Starfly,
I am so excited for you and your new plants especially sinningia 'Peridots Darth Vader'. You have no idea how much I love the blossom on that one! Lucky you!! I will post a pic so you can see it from the 2005 AGGS convention where it won runner up to Best in Show.

When I first saw Darth Vader, I knew then and there I had to have it. I finally did find someone to obtain a leaf from and I have grown in on now to a 4" pot and thrill of thrills, it is in bud! I can barely stand it till it opens. When it does, I will post some photos. I really like the nearly black green red backed foliage also.

Starfly, I grow just the same as my violets and other gessies on my light stand.

So very nice of your sister to give you your new plants.

Oh my Lord is right!!!

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

congrats on the nice plants!

I don't grow the pentadenia - maybe someone here does? It's basically a columnea. It probably likes a bit more light than the AVs, and likes humidity. It probably likes to go a little dry between waterings, rather than stay moist all the time. It's said to be an easy grower so it should do well for you!

Edited to say that I owe you a bingo box whenever you are ready and our weather is warm enough!

how do i take care of that strange one ,well the last one
does it take a lot of light ,can i put it under the plant light

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Beautiful!!
I 'googled' that other plant...all I could find was Pentadenia (note the second letter is an 'e' rather than an 'a') byrsina.....and that the Pentadenia byrsina is also called Columnea byrsina....so that one's a mystery....but it's a lovely and very intriguing plant!

If that's a Columnea....it's a big 'un!!

Homosassa, FL(Zone 9a)

thanks nan
i have been trying to find out ,on the tag thats on it , pentadenia orientandina
if you find something let me know please

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

They're both beautiful with or without names...but I know the names help in caring for them!
I have AB Graf's 'Exotica' book and a few others at home....I'll look up Pentadenia this weekend, as I'm very curious about it now, too!
Hope you find some info on it in the meantime!

Nice sister you have!

Eunice if you go on Rob's " Violet Barn " he tells a little bit how they grow theirs !
I am going to need SINNINGIA 'PERIDOT'S DARTH VADER'
AND :)) PENTADINIA ORIENTANDINA.
Rob says both are very easy to grow ! I'm thinking I can grow them on my screen in porch !

I would not re-pot them for at least a month let them get use to their new home. Plus I think Rob's uses good soil-less mixture.

Yes God let Rick get the home cleaned up and ready for new onewr coming from Ohio around Wednesday !
We paid movers to move us.
We have been without a Refrigerater sense Monday waiting on cleared funds.
Our new home still needs a good year of work. Small living rm has new plywood floors no tile or anything to make safe for my wheel chair. One small bedroom done, kitchen, dinning room and bathroom.
God brought us threw these 5 hard months and got us moved and out of double lot rent.
But he slowed Rick down today . The saw back fired and cut Ricks large toe threw shoe . I called our neighbor and from the moment I called her and the time they pulled out of our dry wave must have been three minutes. He has been at the Hospital for three hours. She called he fractures three bones in his foot, and he has a walking shoe/cast and crutches for at least ten days can do nothing and strong antibody shots... and Antibodi perscritptions she said. I asked about stiches she said she did not know she was not in the room so I don't know if he lost his toe or not. Please keep him in your prayers
