Hi everyone!
Snapped this pic of chirita 'Crossroads' this morning with it's interesting pouch shaped blossom held high over the fleshy, oval leaves with silvery markings. Chiritas have grown on me over time (no pun intended, LOL!) and I do love and enjoy them so much.
The long pointy leaves you see behind the blossom is my overgrown chirita 'Stardust' which I have let grow multicrowned.
Chirita 'Crossroads' blooming!
Very beautiful. I still have my fingers crossed that my Diane Marie will bloom.
It will one of these days....promise :-)
Some chiritas are more floriferous than others. I had one quite a while ago that had beautiful foliage (can't remember the variety name....(must have wanted to forget), but after 2 years of no bloom, I got rid of it. Then I went the longest time without any and started back up with chirita 'Betty' as I was told, yes, it will bloom! Since then I've added many more and still have a few I wouldn't mind having. Let's see who has buds....Hisako, Vertigo....that's all I see for now other than Crossroads in bloom.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Very pretty!
Snowrose, would you please post a picture of early buds. I have something starting with Diane Marie. Don't know if it a but or a sucker.
Nice bloom!
Beautiful Plant! I've got to try one of those .... never heard of Cherita before! Really pretty plant!
Lin
Beautiful !
Lin you must try a chirita they are great fun, and easy to grow !
Violet_Treasure: Do you know of a good source where I can purchase one? Do they require the same care as AV's and Gloxinia's?
Thanks, Lin
Nanna ,Please keep us posted when your Diane Marie blooms.I have been dying to see what that will look like in bloom! I have only seen a pic on Robs! The foliage on that puts on quite the show on its own! : )
Edited to say: Your Crossroads is beautiful snowrose : ) Nancy

Couldn't resist: I found Rob's Violet's web site and ordered 2 Chirita's and a Streptocarpus (I think)!
I didn't write down which ones I ordered and can't remember! LOL
Can't wait to get these babies to grow. Wish me luck!

Nanna - Here are some not too good photos of flower buds of chirita Vertigo and Hisako. I know what you mean about 'is that a sucker or a bud ?' Doesn't take long to find out though. I hope yours is a bud :-)
Thanks all and good luck to you, plantladylin, on your new plants. I think you will like your chiritas as they are rewarding and a bit easier to grow than violets in my opinion.
Chirita 'Vertigo' bud
Beautiful plants Heidi :)) I grow these or should I say they grow themselves :)) C.S. 'Hisako one of my favorites !
'Vertigo' is so beautiful love the yellow streaks !
My Chirita sinensis 'Hisako' has been my favorite ! I progated many to share and mine also blooms most of the time too ! And it grew so large ! One leaf as long half way up my arm and wider. The flower stems sometimes give me 20 flowers in one ! Once it got so heavy I cut it off and put it into a vase for a couple weeks where they stayed fresh for enjoyment.
The past month I have been enjoying Chirita 'Chastity' blooming !
Vertigo is wonderful. Love the yellow markings in the center of the bloom. I still have my fingers crossed that I have a bloom starting and not a sucker.
Nanna do you Vertigo also ! Beautiful :)) Hope you get blooms too ! I just love Chiritas ! Anyone else growing these wonderous fun easy plants !
These plants are so beautiful! I love the flower shape. Guess I'd better put Chirita on my gotta get list. Thanks for the pictures all :)
They are wonderful ! Everyone should grow atleast one !
Hey, Allison. I don't have Vertigo. I have a large sucker of Hisako and a young plant of Diane Marie. It is the Diane Marie that I think might be sending up bloom stocks.
So.... are these chiritas blooming for you under lights or in natural light? My 'Hisako' is in very bright indirect light (shelf on a wall at right angles and very close to a south-facing double window)... no blooms yet, but it's still a young plant, maybe 5 inches across, and it's suckering, so maybe it's energy is going into foliage.
Mine are all natural light. Mine have been livingon screen porch even with 40 degree nights happy.
Very beautiful plants. Never knew...thanks for the pics.
Laura
There are so many too ! When I saw a photo of Chriita sinensis 'Hisako' I just knew I must had one and went a looking :)) I was lucky Bluebirds was selling them on their web sight where I bought mine !
The Hisako I have was a gift from one of the members of the BAVA. He plant was hugh. I think 5 or 6 suckers were removed and shared with others. The main plant was still about 10 to 12 inches across. It was very beautiful. Diane Marie I purchased from Violet Barn this spring. It is growing very slowly but like most chirita's the folage is very pretty.
