I have a brug in a pot and I want to overwinter it in the garage (I'm in zone 7a and it won't survive the winter outside). Do I just take it from the bright sunny spot it is in now and plunk it in the dark cool garage, cold turkey? And then in the spring just plunk it back in the sun? Or will the brug need some kind of transitional care? And do I need to water it over the winter?
Overwintering brugs in the garage
I do mine gradualy, then I do have a light on during the day as there is no window, but I am not sure they need it, I have never done any in complete darkness all the time, and I water lightly about once every two weeks.
I am sure you will get other advise from more expert than I am.
Doris
Thanks, Doris! I could just keep it in the kitchen . . . .
When you bring it into the garage the leaves will fall off but that is normal.
I would water it just enough through the winter to keep it alive as it won't need that much water in it's dormant state.
In the spring gradually get it used to the sunlight by putting it in the shade and giving it a little more sun each day for about a week.
snowhermit -- so you think I can move it into the garage without any transition from the great outdoors?
Yes you can bring it right in but in the spring bring it out gradually to get it used to the sun to avoid sunburn.
Thanks so much -- that is really helpful.

Is your garage heated. Would my basement be OK at 60 degrees?
Thanks
Gary
No Gary it's not. Last year I kept the Brugs in a GH with temps running between 54-60 degrees most of the winter. Sometimes it went a little lower when the outside temps dipped below 0.
Your basement would be fine.
