What is the coolest brugs can take before...

I, TX(Zone 8a)

It is 49* here today and I was wondering how much cooler the brugs can stand before I should take some cuttings? I have buds galore and sure hate to cut them back if they have a chance to bloom.

I left mine out until it got below 35. But that temperature is only for an hour or so and then it goes back up. From what I understand Versicolors are the most cold sensitive and temps consistently under 45F is damaging. That is about the extent of my vast knowledge. lol

I think the warmer it is, the easier it is to get cuttings to root. If you wait until the sap quits running in the plants, those babies just don't like making a fresh start. I think the day length makes up some of the difference too. Once the day length goes below 12 hours, I'm sure the brugs just kind of sit...especially where the temps are cooler. Just a guess.

I didn't cut mine back last year until after Bobbie got out of the hospital about the middle of November. I didn't have any problem getting them to root in the bubbler. That doesn't mean that your would be that way or mine will be that way this year. They are persnickery at times.

Ok, tomorrow is the day. Buds or not those babies will look like sticks tomorrow at this time. The more of these I have the more I want. The rose bushes are history. There maybe something else going if all of the cuttings root and take hold. My name is Kim and I think I have an addiction. Thanks all for the help.

I'm not sure about 'the warmer, the easier to root', except sort of, hahahaha!! Well, here is the deal, in MY zone 8a - when it's hot summer hot, or anytime hot/humid, brugs do not root easily here, unless under full time air con, but, even then, that is mostly likely in the fall. I'm sorta like Shadowgirl, they can take 35 degrees, even 32, if it is not for a long period. Like, if it's 32 degrees for 12 hours, they are done. But, if the temp hits freezing, for a little while, then pumps back up, they are okay...zones/temps are what it's all about...IMO, or as it is in my zone 8a...

LOL, Sherry, this is why brugs are such a challenge. What works for one, might not work for another. I can root them all summer long in a pot of dirt in the shade and not skip a beat. Water rooting is another story. How are you? I hope things are cooling off for you now.

It is suppose to be 39 tonight so I am off to start cutting them back. Cry Cry...

I hate to see summer or our growing season come to an end.

It's always a sad day when we have to cut them back. Don't work too hard.
