DH and I had a blast with this :-) Here are the 4 pics that I had time to get off the camera before work this morning. I'll be posting the rest to my diary some time this week I hope.
#1 - Hall of Horrors (with the lights on, before the kids started showing up)
Halloween in Blyth
Ahhhhhhhhh :)~ and what a striking beauty our Ms. Ginny is! Ü I love your set-up (and am envious of how much space there is in your garage ;). Let me guess ..... you are one of the few Canadians that actually parks your vehicle in it???
Ginny you and your hubby did a vonderful job and I bet the kids (and parents) were very appreciative of it!
Thanks Pam. We received many thank-you's from the parents and lots of nice comments from the kids - even the ones who were too scared to actually step foot through the door.
LOL Actually, did you notice the clutter in the second witch picture taken in behind the backdrops? That is where we moved everything out of the way temporarily, and it's driving my DH nuts! He hates clutter, especially in his garage :-)
This is a two-car garage. We park my little sports car in the other half for the winter, and this half normally holds the tools and equipment for working on vehicles (DH is a mechanic), and our little backhoe/front-end loader. The loader is parked in behind the garage right now.
All this means....no, we do not actually park the vehicle we are driving in the garage. We much prefer the wonderful Canadian activities of freezing our butts off while we scrape the night's load of ice and snow off of the car every morning. Correction....my DH seems to prefer it. I, on the other hand, would relegate the tractor to the outdoors with the first flake of snow, since I absolutely hate getting cold :-)
even the ones who were too scared to actually step foot through the door.
LOLOLOL ah yes Ginny you are truly a low zone Canadian then (re what car stays outside the garage)......and yes I did see what was behind curtain #1 (obviously your hubby is very careful of what is stashed in his domain ;)
I "watch" the Holidays & Special Occasions forum for days looking for others, knowing they ARE out there.........thinking I can not be the only one.....feeling the inevitable pull, the driving need, feeling it in my bones as the days were growing shorter.......waiting for the transformation time........feeling confused, anxious even.........I know there are others out there (I have seen their results).........and here you are on the "scariest" forums Ever.......Hi, I am Nadine and I over do it for Halloween.............
Looks like you had a great time with halloween too, Ginny. Thanks for showing us a few pics. Looks like you did a fantastic job. I am waiting for the diary pics, when you have time to get them up.
We never have enough room in our garage/shed/barn for everything either. Big decisions - what goes in, what stays out. We even bought a portable unit thingy this year. I'll shut up now before I start venting.
The Holliday and Special Occasion forum is one of the new "open to the whole world" forums.
Actually, the parents bought right into the whole thing this year Pam - it was priceless! If the kid wouldn't go by themselves, for the most part the parent would either offer to come in with them or would try to convince them they could do it, but not one of them came in for their child. One little boy came up with a brilliant solution. He didn't want to admit that he was too scared to come in by himself, so he said to his parent, "Dad, you'll have to carry my bag for me when I go in. It's getting too heavy for me now." LOLOL!!!!
Hi Nadine. My name is Ginny, and I too am a Halloweenaholic.....and a Christmasaholic :-) I'll try to remember to post a link to my Halloween diary entries in the Holiday and Special Occassions forum as well as here once I get them set up. Do you have your pics posted someplace too? I'd like to see them.
LOL So Brenda, may I guess that you are not pleased with the "portable unit thingy"? They aren't very attractive, are they.....and they just don't seem to do much for the aesthetic appeal of the property :-) Not to mention the fact that putting up another storage solution probably means you'll just add more stuff and need more storage next year, hmmmmm? Sorry, sorry - I just can't resist trying to "help" you overcome your ranting restraint :-)
Wow, you make one U..G..L..Y witch, Ginny! That's a compliment, I think. LOL
Sandy
Stop eggin me on Ginny. I don't need much encouragement. It actually doesn't look too bad and it's way out on the "back fourty", so that's not the issue. It's like at your house, what's in, and WHAT's out. You don't see it from the house or as you drive in.
So get busy in that diary, eh.
Well, that should be a compliment Sandy.
That is absolutely a compliment - thanks Sandy! I'm already starting to dream up what I might become next year. Something even uglier and scarier I hope :-)
--Ginny
LOLOL Brenda! Sorry - I just couldn't resist :-) Believe you me, if I was the one who had to do the mornin' scraping that tractor would be sitting OUTside if I had to put it there myself! And the car would be nice and toasty and dry INside the garage. And if DH had a problem with that he could just.....well.....he'd prolly find out how cold it could be inside the house too :-)
Edited to add: I'm at work right now and won't get a chance to set up my Halloween diary until this evening. I promise to do my best to get it done before bedtime tonight.

Ah Ginny, what a dellight!
It's so good to see the parents get right in there where all the fun is and contribute.
Did you have some nice spooky music playing? We played a reel to reel tape backwards one year at slow speed and it scared the beegusus out of some of the little gaffers. lol
Great job!
Joan
Thanks Joan. One of the two fog machines we had going has both a strobe light and spooky sound effects. The witch at the right hand side of the entry also had sound-activated sound effects, flashing red-lighted eyes, and movement.
LOL I can just imagine what that slow backward tape must have sounded like! Kinda makes me wish I still had a reel-to-reel machine :-)
Thanks Jeanne. We did indeed have a blast!
Halloween pics are all posted here: http://davesgarden.com/journal/d/t/ginnylynn/4598/ No captions, not sorted, no story - it's very late for me. I have to get up for work in 5 1/2 hours. Enjoy everyone, and I'll do it right another time :-)
Fantastic, ginny! You and your dh did an awesome job of decorating. Those props are really spooky. Nice work! Your poor kitty, I wonder if he'll ever be the same....
Don :)
Thanks Don. Lucky for us Smokey has a short attention span :-) He was fine by the next morning. Halloween night was hilarious though. Tipper takes everything in stride - she didn't so much as bat an eyelash. Smokey, on the other hand, got more and more nervous the further we transformed into witch and executioner. By the time we were completely in costume he didn't know if we were safe anymore or not! LOL We smelled like Mom and Dad, but it certainly didn't look like us anymore - and Dad didn't even sound like Dad anymore! Oh noooooooooooo..... what do I do now...... go and hide - that'll solve the problem!
