Allison, one of the babies you sent me back in March is starting to bloom again. The name of it is Funambule and it is so beautiful. I can hardly wait for more blooms. When you sent it to me it was a tiny little thing but just look at it now.
Jesse
Allison, one of your babies is blooming
Oh Wow, Jesse. You've done a great job raising that one. The flower is gorgeous.
Sharon
Very beautiful. Is the bloom that blue?
Ohhhh that is so beautiful!!! I would love to trade you one of my leaves for a leaf of funambule. I just LOVE it!
Oh my goodness Jesse WOW you took my breath away. Foliage Flower WOW Stunning beauty ! Great growing !

JanetS
Oh I so enjoy seeing the babies I sent out blooming. And WOW how fast and how mush they have grown. :))
Thanks toy Jesse Thank you so much everyone who has and who will sharing your beautiful plants blooming :))
The flowers are similar though not exactly alike, but the growing habits look to be quite different...Carnival is almost all blooms and the flowers are held high about the leaves, she is just quite the sweetheart! Etna has only the one bloom now, so I am looking forward to more to see how it takes shape..it appears to have more leaf clustering too...They just really brighten you day, don't they. I will keep you post on your other babies as they mature..I know it must be fun to see them and know we are all enjoying them so much!
Absolutely gorgeous, Jesse!
WOW Janet :)) Gorgous stunning beautiful WOW :))
You girls are excellent AV Mom's. You sure have grown your little babies from me outstanding. Breath taking WOW
I just love Mac's Carnival Clown WOW
See I grew these babies from leaf so I never saw them bloom this is incrediable so much fun !
Thanks Jesse and Janet for sharing :))
When I saw the blue and white flower, it reminded me I hadn't posted my pics for you so I wanted you to see whem..I didn't know the flowers were all so different...thank YOU for sharing and enlightening me!
Thanks for all the compliments. And yes, it is that blue. I have started using a tripod when I take my photos and they turn out so much better. Sometimes I can't hold the camera still long enough when taking macro shots but when using the tripod my photos turn out so much more clear and with much more detail. I would recommend using a tripod to any of you that have problems taking really sharp photos because you can't hold the camera still for a longer period of time. I bought mine at Big Lots for $18. Walmart has them for about the same price also.
Jesse
Beautiful plants, Janet. Love that Mac's Carnival Clown!!! I have B-Mans Etna too. Can't wait until it blooms.
Don Ü
The Clown is just too sweet. The Etna was a surprise this time when I was watering..can't wait for more blooms from her..I will post when she gets going better!
Thanks!
Janet
You girls should post some pictures in Plantfiles and send some to AVSA for First Class !
Tabasco...what is the name of the one blooming? It is just beautiful!!! What size pot is she in? I love the way you are displaying them too...I have been trying to think of a way to display mine and I have lots of pretty platters...you have given me inspiration! Allison I know you are so proud of all of your babies!!
JanetS
That Blue one "Funambule"? is just Gorgeous! I don't think I've EVER seen a flower quite that blue. I've never been really drawn to blue color flower's, just not my personal preference .... but that is an outstanding plant! Now, I WANT one!! Anyone know of an on-line source where that particular AV can be purchased? I only have about 8-10 AV's, and none with name tags, so I have no idea what they are. Since joining DG last month, I've decided to research and name ALL of my many houseplants! It will take some time, but I am determined. And, I will never throw away a tag when I buy a plant again!
I am having so much fun here in DG .... have made a few trades .... and most of all, learning so much from all these smart plant people!
Allison: I sure would like to know the name of that beautiful white AV in your photo too! I don't have a white one, and that one is really pretty!
You all inspire me to grow more AV's and to try to have them look as wonderful as yours!
Thanks for sharing!
Lin
Thanks, Janet.
The AV in the green pot has no ID, sorry. The green pot is about 4 inches in diameter. I leave them on the big platter until they start to bloom then transfer them to the single pots/plates and place them around the living room (not necessarily in a sunny window) while they are in bloom.
That plan wouldn't work, though if I had as many AVs as some of the DGers on this forum! I have just 10 in all.
Lot's of good information on this forum, BTW. Thanks, everyone!
Lin,
I checked to see if I had any Funambule babies but I don't. But I can put a couple of leaves down and put your name on one of them. As soon as one of the babies are big enough, I'll send you one, if you can wait that long.
Jesse
All the babies I shared with people were grown by leaves I either bought or would buy plants and take leaves off to grow babies to share them with others.
It is such a joy to see the babies I shared growing so happy and blooming.
Judy I gave you those plants correct ?? Then they were all named . Not sure if I kept the name info but all of them were named I will see if I can find the info.
They are breath taking brought happy tears to my eyes, gogjous ! WOW you all sure can grow them ! Thanks so much for sharing :))
Jesse:
Thank you so much! I would love it if you could put my name on a one of those! It's one of the prettiest AV's I've ever seen! And, like I said, I'm usually not partial to blue flowers .... but WOW! Great job on growing that one!
Keep me posted!
Lin
When I go out to the greenhouse, I will pot one up for you and put your name on it.
Jesse
Jesse:
Thank you so very much! I am so excited about having a "baby" Funambule Violet! Let me know if there's any particular plant or plants you are looking for or maybe on your "wish" list! Oh, lucky you, you have a greenhouse! I had a huge one years ago, but it was not heated and one year I just decided to have my husband dismantle it and we had a wood deck put in it's place, then years later decided to take the wood deck down and now have lawn and flower beds in that area. Since joining DG last month and reading these forums, makes me want another green house! I have Many, Many plants .... mostly houseplants. We have a screened pool enclosure that runs the length of the back of our house where most of my plants live. We get cold weather here in East Central Fla. in January and February and do have frosts and freezes at times, so for a couple of months a year, if we have a cold winter, I have to drag plants under a covered deck and into an enclosed unheated porch and cover them with blankets to save them from the cold! Some things like orchids have to actually spend the winter inside the house.
Well, I didn't mean to ramble on .... just wanted to say again, Thank You for rooting one of your "babies" for me!
Lin
Rob's Violet Barn and Violet Gallery sells it. Bluebirds I think use to where I bought Mom to give to a friend in Canada and took leaves and grew many babies :))
I will be working out in the greenhouse later today after my Dr appointment and will put a leaf down with your name on it. As soon as a baby appears, I will be sure to show you photos of it.
Jesse
Ooooh! Can't wait, Jesse! Thank you so much!
I ordered 3 plants from Rob's on Monday and got them yesterday! They are: Chirita 'Silver Surfer' (substituted for 'Betty', which I guess they were out of.), Chirita 'Stardust', and Streptocarpus 'Canterbury Surprise'. Oh, and one free plant, Chirita 'Vietnam'.
They are "itty" "bitty", little plants, and I can't wait for them to grow up to their adult size. I had never heard of Chirita's before a few days ago while reading a thread on here, and couldn't wait to try them! Someone says they are as easy as AV's which I don't have trouble with, so I thought I'd give them a try! The Cherita's are in little probably 2" pots, but the Streptocarpus is just two little leaves in a little dixie type cup! Sure hope I can manage to keep them all surviving! I'm going to try my darndest!
I just love all you DG'er's out there and all the wonderful information I'm getting from everyone! And, the trades are fun too!
Lin
Here's a pic of my new "babies" from the Violet Barn!
Lin nice chose of plants ! Be real careful Streptocarpus plants like it on the dry side do not water until dry almost to drooping stage. Over water them and they droop they will die no saving them :(( Under water them and they droop , water they will perk right up very forgiving of under watering they will live :))
Chirita's like it on the dry side also.
One leaf is concidered a Streptocapus Plantlet not like an AV has a crown.
Did you have to pay the Winter shipping cost ??
Violet,
Yes, all my pretty little AVs are from your mailing! I can't believe I can grow them! (They do look a little leggy so I have turned on the lamp next to them and I didn't realize you were supposed to turn them one quarter turn frequently so will do that too. Makes sense. (I just read all the FAQs on Rob's Violets site.))
I thought I remembered that you ID-ed all of them, but when I went to look at the pot, there was nothing written, so maybe it washed off--for some reason I thought the marker would be permanent--silly (stupid) me! Now I know I'd better make permanent tags for them!
Love everybody's pics. I am lurking and learning on the AV Forum from all of you, so thatnks so much. t.
Violet_Treasure:
They shipped Priority Mail .... total cost was $14.00 - I guess that was for Packing charge as well Shipping, cause the Post Office amount on the box was $7.20, if I remember correctly. It said on the website that after Nov 1st they only ship by Express Mail, and I know Express is more expensive, but mine came Priority!
Thanks for the info re: keeping my little babies on the dry side! Will heed your advise, sure don't want to kill them!
Lin
Lin
Even when Strep's and Chiritas are big/full grown they need to be kept on the dry side or they will die. In our sticky the second on for Gesnerauds is lots of info about them !
You sure lucky to get the lower shipping :)) Have fun and enjoy your new wonderful plants !
